Ok, here's the deal. When you enable "nolink", you disable all communication between dhcpcd and wpa_supplicant. So, it's actually connecting your network, the dhcp client just doesn't know you have a live connection. So you have to manually tell it to connect. It's quicker just to click the Pwireless2 tray applet, than to open Pwireless2 and click Roam.

I mentioned this problem on the dhcpcd mailing list and I think it might be fixed in the next version of dhcpcd, but it could be a while. I'll also see if it can be fixed in wpa_supplicant, which is the real source of the issue.

I still can't get these silly Dillo/PPM connection problems solved, but I'm still around. :) Grabbed the patch.........

Otherwise, everything else is working well.

All things considered it's a pretty minor issue for me, I just thought I was doing something wrong. :)

Guy,
Thanks for this, but a little request for the benefit of posters.
Would it be possible, when you make available a patch, to give also a short description of what it corrects?
Thank you,

Bernard

Do we need to beware of copyright issues? Dpup is (I imagine) ok, but to say "Debian Puppy Linux" may not be. Any experts out there?

Oops...never though of that. It's fine for me to use it on my boxes but to post it was maybe wrong.

mplayer

#332 Post by upnorth »

When opening a url in mplayer, it is real slow to start playing, 60sec, and processor intensive, 100%. This is true even with a lowend monophonic mp3 stream (16kbps/22khz). However, I have a real lowend system at 466mhz so it's probably much more noticeable. Once it starts playing though, everything returns to normal.

With bmp, it starts to play right away and doesn't peg the processor at all.

It also worked well by pasting url in precord's open box - cool! -
(ffmpeg)

Pasting in pupRadio worked fine as well.- (mplayer)

It seems the gmplayer components and not the mplayer proper are choking somehow.

Desktop icons have a habit of wandering and stacking on top of each other.

Puppy Package Manager does not display Lenny debs, and updating the repo does not work.

Doglover,

What version are you using...the screenshot looks like older version, and what happened to the tray icons......?

Thunderbird 3.0.1

#335 Post by Terryphi »

I have just done an auto upgrade of Thunderbird to 3.0.1 and now it fails to run showing this error:

Code: Select all

# thunderbird
/usr/lib/thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 7552 bus error
"$prog" ${1+"$@"}
I have also upgraded in Quirky 0.0.5 with no problem ??

Terryphi,

This is a known problem with Thunderbird and has existed since way back at version 1...apparently updates randomly corrupt and the only thing that fixes it is uninstall and re-install...

It happens randomly across all distros, going by the bug reports...

Hi guys

I am thinking of replacing dillo with netsurf2 as it's interface has Gtk commonality and is theme-able as well as being smaller than dillo.

I would appreciate comments...to test it the Dpup netsurf2 package is in the Dpup repo at ibiblio...

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, Guy. I am aware of an infrequent corruption on update problem with Tbird. I only mentioned it because on three upgrades carried out today it happened with Dpup and Puppy 4.3.1 but not Quirky. However, Dpup was not a clean install and may have shared problems with the pupsave. Yes, I know I should do a clean install but I have so many other things added it proves very inconvenient.

Anyway, no problem I have fixed them now.

Hi Guy Dillo is somewhat themeable :) Netsurf is nice but its developers never listen to the public, lol Well Bigbass had the developer in the forum, and I asked a few times time to please add "save as" to the right click menu or have it recognise "pet" and "pup" extensions, but nooooooooooooo.lol so you can't download pets from the forum or from ibibilio, Eric had to do a patch on his server so it would work right, but really you shouldn't have to do that. If you can't download a pet what good is it other than just GUI for CUPS, lol
