It is a known problem when using windows to move and look at files in Puppy Linux.
Yes I am aware of that.
The difference this time was that I just downloaded the ISO and burned it straight to CD (in Windows). I had not even looked at the contents of the CD.

Had I copied the files I would have checked straight away as I was one of those that 'found' it earlier.

Altho I downloaded SeaMonkey from the Mozilla site, I see to my surprise, that I have a selection of German also to have the application messages in German.
Was it the German Language Pack you had installed by any chance?

I don't think that will give the user a localized Firefox. I have no Firefox installed atm, but I think the function you refer to is about content, website content, not the browser itself. (Unless things changed very recently in FF)
Yes, what I said was worthless. I spoke without checking--wishful thinking.

Evey thing what has to be installed as a pet will grow my save file, something what I would like to avoid.
Therefor ttuuxxx'x idea to have that in a separate sfs looks a nicer solution to me.
Look how small they are. Plus a pet can be made into an sfs very easily--though as shinobar explained the other day they are not exactly equivalent, sfs's and pets, but we could try.

Here is an old discussion of the problem. What program, you use in windows, seems to be part of the problem.

Off-topic: it looks like Abiword's site is attacked:

Click "Linux" and then "Click here".....

I just installed the DE Language Pack and used Chooselocale to select de_DE.

Now, Quickpet, gnome-mplayer, osmo, pidgin, sylpheed, Chromium 7, abiword, gnumeric, mtpaint, inkscape, and geany *all* have their interfaces in German. And that is just the programs with icons on the desktop. Pmusic is in German too, and many more I am sure.

That is our package installer, media player, planner, chat client, email program, browser, word processor, spreadsheet, paint program, drawing program, and text editor. I would say that covers a high percentage of computer use. And the pet was less than 1MB, 990K in fact.

That seems like some healthy localization/internationalization to me. I know it might not be not perfect, but gee whiz, is it not a wonderful thing?

Thank you shinobar for making the language packs. That must have been hard tedious work.

Yes, Shinobar should be nominated for the Golden Puppy Award 2010!

Not only for the enormous amounts of work he has contributed, but also for his endless patience when dealing with stupid questions.

When I had the problem with a missing zdrive I'd moved the luci-239.sfs file to my Puppy directory on C (sda1) and possibly also deleted the zdrive as I was short of space and didn't know what it was for. Another user on this thread had done a manual install but not copied the zdrive file.
The zdrive "problem" then comes from deleting the zdrive. That's good to know--it could have been worse. Thanks.

Next presets are needed in /root/.config/geany/geany.conf at [geany] section:
Code:
pref_editor_default_new_encoding=UTF-8
editor_font=Fixed 13
show_linenumber_margin=true
  1. pref_editor_default_new_encoding
    If you make new file with geany and type characters other than ISO-8859-1,
    The geany cannot save it with error.
    Setting pref_editor_default_new_encoding=UTF-8 avoids this.
I was not clear, shinobar. This is done for luci-243pre. Thank you.

In 242 the taskbar disappears when I for example start Iron.
The only way to get it back is to Restart X-server.
Once I have done that I sometimes have to click on pwireless2 to get back my wireless connection.
I can see in my other PC where I run 237 that there is a command for Openbox that says refresh desktop. Where did that go in 242?
I took it out thinking it was causing a problem. But it was something else. it should be back in luci-243. It is 'refresh menus'.

These reports are the first I have heard of the tray disappearing in Openbox. When you run Iron is a helpful clue. What would help of course is that anyone having the problem notices what happened right before the problem. Thanks.

Whenever one installs a pet, the tray will momentarily disapper when the menus are updated--or more precisely, just after the menus are updated in order to display the new menu. If something went wrong there is a possibility for a disappearing tray.

Starting Iron did not make it disappear, just flash momentarily when the pet was installed.

Tray disappearing. Long shot. Try closing Firewallstate in the tray with right-click and see if that makes any difference. Firewallstate can take quite a while to get started and check what it needs to check??? Thanks.

playdayz,
Negative comments are not evil when you are testing. They are the comments you seek and want to get. What is wrong? what does not work? What do you not like? What do you think it should do? Did it do what you expected? ETC......
What you are doing for Puppy Linux is the right direction to go. Deciding when you are finished, is the hard part!

Yes, Did something I said sound negative? I need to switch out of German here, every single word is misspelled.

"Yes, that's worthless." was about something I said ;-)

When I right click on firewallstate in the tray, I do not get the menu. It just closes firewallstate. Should get a right click menu.
No effect on disappearing tray problem. I have not had that problem.

Right-click and hold will give a menu. I should have been more precise--sometimes I close it when I am trying to open the menu.

In JWM, I just right-clicked on Firewallstate and momentarily got the menu (for about a second) then the menu and the icon in the taskbar both disappeared. No problems with the taskbar itself here though.........yet. :lol:

I do have my firewall enabled....did it immediately after I installed.

Not being in the same directory as the luci-nnn.sfs file may also be a factor. The problem certainly occurs when the zdrive isn't on the same drive (or possibly partition, haven't checked that yet). Even if it /is/ present on the CD in a LiveCD boot it doesn't appear to check for it if the luci-nnn.sfs is present on the hard drive.

The purpose of the test builds, of course, is to find these problems out before the general public fall over them on the release version. :wink:

I must admit that I'm enjoying testing Luci even with the assorted problems on the K6 2 500.
