Just made lucid from woof. I compiled kernel 2.6.35-7 for it. it is quite sane. I updated some packages from this thread. It is about 190 mb and have all the driver modules included. Kernel has rfkill, hyperthreading and KMS for intel enabled. all other KMS are as modules.

I didnt have much difficulties so far. Time has went of course because of that woof based building. I thought to upload it if smokey quanta give me space enough. I used playdayz specs as base and updated them to accept extra stuff.

The naming is something i have to ask. It is 100 % woof build, but have some updates and of course extra apps mainly from this thread and from lucid puppy repo. I thought it could be Snow Puppy 513, savefile lupe (like lucid pemasu) but if it has too much reminds of official puppy, I will change distro specs.

a) Trying to use Pburn to erase CD-RW holding Luci-241.
Pburn unable to see the CD in the drive despite the fact the sr0 is displayed on the desktop, and can be mounted and the contents displayed.
"No disk inserted" is the wording.

There are reported problems with the latest pburn. Zigbert and Barry both know. And surely a fix is impending

Congratulations pemasu. I think of Lucid 5.2 now as a mutt, with hybrid vigor, because we have updated so much from Maverick. That in fact was not the original intention of Puppy, but we built two versions only from Lucid Lynx 10.04 so now we are experimenting with the capabilities of Woof. One thing for sure, it is more trouble to manually update things than to have Woof do it all

Do I continue this path or do we scrap the drivers page and fix Barry's Video upgrade for compliance with Lupu???

It's parallel development.. pretty much a waste of resources. My latest incarnation (unreleased as yet) almost mimics Barry's version

How much does yours need Mick? We could get locked in to constant improvement and no product. After Lucid 5.2 I believe that lucid will be at the end of its development cycle--but still good for 6 months easy. If yours will do I say stay with yours and make it work. And I think yours will do. But you know the best. If we need to do it--then it is your call.

You are exactly right: Time to turn our attention from what features might be added or substituted to finding any things that don't work as they should. This time is really important for quality look and feel. I personally don't want any programs to crash or anyone to see any error message. And that every program in the iso works is a given--but I would also like to be able to say that we tested every program in Quickpet and the Puppy Package Manager.

I had to think for a minute there. But no, I only did that to Iron 7. Let me know if it seems that Chromium 7 needs it. Was it your experience that the cache limit helped with Iron 7?

Yes.
Last week, after talking to the Iron developer, I checked the cache of both Iron and Chromium during several days. As far as I can tell they have the same cache behaviour.
Like all modern browsers, they create great amounts of cache. So in the case of Puppy, something should be done. Either moving the cache out of the save file or setting a size limit. Or preferably both.

Note to Playdayz

I discovered that I could use the built-in wacom driver in
luci 241 by typing the following in the terminal
(after making changes to xorg.conf)

modprobe wacom

In other words I had to load the wacom driver twice.
But the driver isn't perfect, since when I do
a reboot I get a black screen.

What I suggest is to get rid of the wacom driver
in the ISO which would save some precious space
and force the wacom tablet user to install the pet package
made by tempestuous

This is similar to an installation on a Windows or Mac machine
where a CD must be inserted and a driver installed.

I prefer the tempestuous driver.

Instead of using "pfix=ram" I often rename save files temporarilly. So, I had this "xxlucisave.2fs" on HD, among other strange creatures I wonder if this could have been confusing luci 242? It shouldn't, but after reading your cautious words, I am not so sure any longer.

Anyway, did some house cleaning on the HD and started over with a fresh Luci 242. All seems well now, connection problem gone..

1. pref_editor_default_new_encoding
   If you make new file with geany and type characters other than ISO-8859-1,
   The geany cannot save it with error.
   Setting pref_editor_default_new_encoding=UTF-8 avoids this.
2. editor_font
   Some fonts in monospace are missing underscore(_) or last stroke of large 'B'.
   The Fixed may escape.
3. show_linenumber_margin
   Showing line numbers is my preference. How about you?

micko must know that on 'pfix=ram' problem:

1. Live CD for the first time, the main sfs of course loaded from the CD.
2. Make savefile(or not) and copy the main file on HDD.
3. Next time boot from Live CD, the savefile and the main sfs loaded from the HDD as expected.
4. Live CD with 'pfix=ram', of course the savefile is not loaded, but the main sfs is loaded from HDD.

If the RAM is less than 256, the HDD partition is kept mounting, so there is no way to maintain the HDD.
How to add swap partition, etc. after?

One more question if you don't mind. We are thinking of including a "hidden" pwireless2 that could be "activated" from a menu command.

Do you happen to have a pinstall.sh that would set up pwireless as default and solve the incompatibilities? Or what would the incompatibilities be and we could try to write the pinstall.sh. We would need a puninstall.sh also to put things back.

I don't have anything handy. You just need to write a script that would disable the regular network startup scripts and use the one for pwireless2. It's been so long since I messed the the network wizard, I'm not really sure what scripts those are or what exactly needs to be done.

Latest from jemimah on pwireless2. Remember she has said that just installing the pet would not be stable because of the net-setup scripts. So it is clear what we need to do, but not clear who can do it.

I have not seen this either. Unless you mean that it disappears momentarily when menus are being rebuilt after a pet is installed--I have seen that.

Chromium 7 again, with the cache limits and also that sets itself as defaultbrowser.

Here is Chromium 7, the Ubuntu version of the Chromium source code--not the same as the browser Google Chrome but from the same source code. Not the same either as Iron 7 which uses the same source code but removes what it regards as intrusive "features."
