Things may be slow for a few months.

I still think, putting a link at the top of the forum start page, would be the thing to do.
As a topic in Puppy Power, it is a little hard to find.

I asked Flash about doing this, but he never replied back an answer.
Hi bigpup.

Maybe we could consider alternatives? How about asking
-- Mick Amadio to link it on the http://puppylinux.com site
and
-- whoever is in charge of the http://puppylinux.org site?

Also there is another Puppy forum, isn't there? How about we ask its
admin if he'd find it useful to post a link to the Newsletter there?

Finally -- that I know of, there may be more -- PuppyLinux has a section
at LinuxQuestions:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71

Just a couple of ideas.

BFN.

Good ideas!

Somebody has already put a link to the newsletter on this site.
It is at top right of first page.
-- Mick Amadio to link it on the http://puppylinux.com site
I looked for a way to contact him on the web site. Did not find it.
I will send him a PM from this forum web site.

Hey Kerl - could you add a link into the first post explaining how to upload (maybe another link to smokeys page with an "upload" tag?).
cheers!

The link in the first post already goes straight to the page where you can upload. Did you have something else in mind?

Yes, its just that the link in the first post looks like it is for people who want to subscribe to the newsletter feed - I just thought it would be handy to have a separate link (even if it goes to the same place...) labelled something like Upload article here

(I know how to access the upload link now, but it wasn't obvious to me a couple of days ago). It's just my combo of Aspergers, dementia, and domestic blindness.

I will have a review on a,program that RSH did a few years back called LaZyFRed for April

@oldyeller: Thanks

Something I've heard quite a bit over the years is: "One of the short comings of Linux is the lack of game support".

I'm not the right person to agree or refute this as I don't play games. What I have heard is Linux can run steam and steam can run many modern games. Again I don't know if this is true or not.

It would be nice if someone with the knowledge could write an article about steam. Some information that would be useful is:

Is it available for Linux?
Is it available for 32 and 64bit?
Are the packages available for Puppy like Distros?
How to install it?
How do you use it?
What games will run with it?

Obviously there are many more questions but hopefully this is enough to entice someone to write an article.

At least steam 1.0.0.45 is in Ubuntu repository for Trusty Tahr 32bit.

I don't play computer games as well, so I won't test.

Since I seem to be the only gamer around here, I'll have to maybe try writing an article on linux gaming sooner or later.

I play 'World of tanks - Blitz' game on my phone extensively.
I am even moderator on it's Asia server forum.

The Blitz is also available for win10/8, but not linux.

Blitz's big brother for PC 'World of tanks' is only available for Win and Mac, on it's forum though has section to run it on linux through wine I think.
But it's not natively available for linux.

So I tried it's rival 'War Thunder'.
It's got a run script that downloads around 4-5 gb of game data.

And it did run in Fatdog64. (only tried in fatdog, but I think it should also run in others).

Only problem?
I do not have a dedicated graphics card.
Still using onboard graphics, so everything was in blocks, but it did ran.

Will have to buy a graphics card later.
Any suggestion/recommendation?

My PC is self built one from 3 years ago.
I just assembled pieces without any deep thought. So ram is not dual channeled.

intel i3, 6gb ram, intel dh61bf motherboard, no ssd (yet).

Anyway bottom line is, 'War Thunder' will run without any fuss... (in fatdog atleast).

If in coming days I buy a good graphics card, will look at high end games natively available for linux and will make list of what works without much fuss in Pup.

Can't promise anything yet though.

Hi Smokey & all,

Someone else brought this up earlier, but is there any way that the murga site can splatter on the main forum page that there is a Newsletter going on? Yes, the Newsletter is in English only, but (argue as we want) come on, English is the language of business/communications between most countries. If Pelo can do it, anyone can (just joking ya, Pelo, your English is way better than my terrible French!! ) Possibly could the Newsletter, at the very least, have its own category like "Puppy Power" has??

Doggone it, finding this news & ongoings of this Newsletter in the threads isn't going to happen for a lot of people, as their attention span, & thus page-scanning ability, is worse than a gnat's

Hey Flash/John, any chance Smokey and/or this Newsletter can have its own category on the main Murga Puppy page???

smokey01,

I will say again.
You need to make your own topic about the newsletter.
Why?????
So you!!!!! can control what is in the first post of that topic.

Quick access, to the important info, you want people to know, needs to be in the first post in any topic.

You have had to tell people, several times, about stuff that could easily be put in the first post, if you had control of it.

@bigpup: that's true but it would create a fair amount of duplication.

Thanks

Not if you make your topic and get flash to lock this one.

You could put a post at the end of this topic pointing to yours and than get it locked.

Could PM kerl to edit the first post, stating smokey01 is the editor of Puppy Newsletter and all comments should be posted in his newsletter topic.
With a link to yours.
Have flash lock this topic from further posting.

You could have kerl change the subject of this topic so it did not say "Puppy Newsletter", so it would not clash with your topic.
He could make it something like "What Puppy Needs"

Hah, I've just had a quick look at the newsletter, it's awesome. The crossword is a really nice touch too
