emc2
I did as suggested, from the console i typed emc2 up comes a panel
with a list of controllers to select from, i selected stepper MM. then you get a panel saying emc2. then a screen saying it had failed, and you should read the the fault file under root. i printed this to paper.
it gives the same fault irrespective of the controller selected.
this was with lucid 5.2. i then installed 4.2.1 added the two files for emc2
the result was the same, except line 23 "killing task emcsvr, PID=8818,"
with 4.2.1 it is PID= 9949. line 24&25 are removing the in stalled files.
Should i have written some thing else after emc2 ???? it does not say any files are missing.
I look forward to any help from a member who has installed this pet.

Michael,
I don't use emc, the only one I know who does is forum member"schutzhund". He is mostly active at the german forum.
(Forum Index/ User/fürdeutschsprachige ...)
Maybeyou could send him a PM (private message).
What I do know is, that emc needs a so called "real time kernel" to work properly, the only mode which works in vanilla install is "simulation" mode.
This is one of the modes from the list after you type emc. I don't know more about it, maybe you ask also at the emc forums, I faintly recall to read something about that there. (last idea:Puppy studio claims to use a realtime kernel).
good luck

Hello Emil.
Once again thank you for your quick response to my request for help. I will do as you suggest, and PM him to see what success he has had. If and when i have this working i will post here to let every one know. I have a working copy of the early emc2, but i can find no support for this. i would rather use the upto date version with it,s support. and
development.
Michael.
