Thanks Guys, You have have nothing to worry about when it comes to bloat and I put forward , I always try to make things slim and trim , The only real bloat I foresee in the future is browser size, Firefox, Chrome etc all pretty big these days and kernel size. Neither I can do much with. But yes I'm glad I can share my experiences with you guys. The only thing I've noticed is the browser froze up twice so far, But I'm pretty sure its not the PC, The reason, is because on my old tower PC the browser would freeze and I would have to CTRL/ALT/Backspace, xwin and then delete /root/.cache , Now I just have to CTRL/ALT/Backspace xwin. It does feel a lot snappier. I'm thinking its more of a Firefox/backend issue than anything.

Bad system RAM will usually give you the hardware equivalent of a BSOD, or an instant reboot with no error message at all. Bad mainboard will sometimes do this too.mouldy wrote:And hey your current computer that freezes, might just need cleaning and heatsink reseated with new thermal goo. Or, might have a wonky stick of RAM???
Freezing after running for a while with the interval getting shorter and shorter is usually overheating CPU. Usually this is due to a sick/clogged fan, but anyway: if you reseat, use as little goo as possible. What is seldom understood: Thermal goo is an INSULATOR -- its function is to exclude air, which is an even better insulator. So the more you use beyond what it takes to get a clean fit with the heatsink, the hotter the CPU will run. The ideal is NO goo and a perfect fit, which is why metal crush pads are a way better idea. (If you used enough goo that drying out created air gaps, you used WAAAAAAY too much. And brand doesn't matter much, so long as it's not a stiff paste; vegemite and toothpaste have been tested to work just as well as the pricey silver stuff, at least in the short term. I wouldn't recommend 'em as a permanent fix, if only cuz they do dry out and shrink.)
Freezing randomly, mixed with long stalls, if you have spinning rust is usually hard drive failing. It may happen more often when the system is hot. Run, do not walk, to make a backup, because death is near.
Freezing with wonky video is bad video RAM.
Randomly playing dead is usually the power supply; may just be overloaded, not sick.
If you're really cheap, er, I mean thrifty, check around for business discards... I just got 3 Optiplex 9010 desktops (i7 CPU) and a Poweredge server for free, all 100% perfect, because they're not worth business' bother to hawk on eBay.
Browsers freezing is starting to be normal and it is not Puppy Linux or the computer doing it.
I have started to notice that web pages now do all kinds of things, after you seem to get a completed page.
They have all kinds of stuff starting and stopping automatically.
Video adds, new adds, old adds closing, new links showing up, etc.........
You clicking on something, just adds more things trying to work at the exact same time.
At the bottom of the browser I use, it shows an activity report.
That things seems to constantly show this started, this stopped, etc...... and all I am doing is just looking at the web page.
I know, use add blocker.
But, money has to be made somehow to pay for all this free Internet access.
I do not really notice adds, anymore.
I have developed Internet web page tunnel vision!

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Like today when I got up "A script has stopped responding" Had to do ctrl -Alt-Backspace then xwin and all was good. Its basically The browser/backend issue I would say. Firefox is so big and bloated these day's I'm pretty sure something isn't being supported in it correctly.

Its not the static banner ads that annoy me. Those are easy to ignore. They also are red herring, that is NOT where the profits are made. Its all the hidden scripts to track and collect data and sell to data brokerage companies. Tough toenails if they cant make a profit without such creepy maneuvers. Cant make a profit in an honest manner, then best go bankrupt and somebody else will find a better business model. Hopefully not just a sneakier one.bigpup wrote:I know, use add blocker.

Whole point of capitalism is for the capitalists to adapt and compete to best please the consumer, to COMPETE for the consumer dollar, not the other way round. I owe the capitalists nothing. They are the ones that have to convince me, not my responsibility to keep them in business. And if the whole system goes down, then that could be best by far. Certainly better than the Brave New World we seem headed towards.
