You may well have a point there, Nic. Even during the 5 years I've been with Puppy I've seen the 'bloat' creep in....
Here's another possibility:-
This was assembled, with some help from this website for the transparent backgrounds, in my favourite image editor, Mooi Tech's PhotoScape, running under WINE.
Although not really a 'dog' person, I've always liked Border collies. They're highly intelligent canines; handsome, inquisitive.....and downright cheeky with it! Perfect, I think, for the Puppy logo.
Mike.

Great work Mike, when the puppyized yin yang symbol appeared posted by lobster, I thought it would look great in the centre of a 9 as you have done with the collie image which has a sort of yin yang look. Either would be an excellent choice for Puppy 9.Mike Walsh wrote:@ Lobster:-
If you like it.....feel free to make use of it, mate. Same goes for anything I produce.

@ Terry H:-
Nice of you to say so, mate. I did put a bit of thought into how that second one would look. Spent quite a while not only tracking down a suitable black & white 'clipart'-y type of image, but also finding a suitable online site that would do a quick, straight-forward transparent 'background' conversion on the PNG image. (Which is part of the reason why I prefer PNG images to JPGs/JPEGs; you can do stuff like that with 'em, which you can't with the latter.)
Graphic design is a long-standing hobby of mine, and since I like repaying all the help I've had on here over the last few years, I thought I'd try and see if I could do something for the community as a whole. And with all the 'digital' methods there are available these days, I can do stuff I could never have dreamed of, say, 20-25 years ago.
Plus, I enjoy it. 'Nuff said...

Mike
How about tucking a little tux in the bottom left - same black and white motif + yellow soles.
Something like the screenshot. You can get a better image, I'm sure.

Dear all,
I like it. Here is a tiny svg of the puppy 9 above. It could be even smaller if I do the text as text and not as vectors, but I think it is OK this way, too. And we can add a stroke colour to all of the elements later.
with kind regards,
vovchik
UPDATED: Added a gradient-filled variant with some outlining, just as an example.

Dear all,
I did some optimization here. The base svg is now under 1k, and, with a viewBox, it can be scaled easily just by changing the width and height at the top.
With kind regards,
vovchik

@ musher0:-
You happen to enjoy coding. I happen to enjoy graphic design.
Do either of us really need to have an excuse to do what we enjoy doing?
(I've enjoyed creating posters/logos/flyers/designs, etc., for over 40 years. I doubt I'm going to change anytime soon...)
The premise remains, however; Puppy 9 ain't so far off.

Hi Mike_Walsh.
Please draw to your heart's content. Don't mind me!
It remains that Puppy 9 still does not exist. I'll believe it when I see it!
Just being the Thomas! Besides, one mutt has to keep his head on his shoulders
and four paws on the ground while everybody else in the kennel is levitating in awe
about the pooch to come!!!
