(old)Puppy Linux Discussion Forum

I quite often run (even alpha releases) as my main desktop.
So I am not just on the leading edge
but often on the volatile side of it.

Because of Composer (built in HTML editing)
I prefer Seamonkey. Most prefer Firefox.
So this is a great thread.

Ttuuxxx is one of our hardest working 'out there' developers
Just as many contribute behind the scenes.

We only have had 3 developers known as 'Puppy Masters'
BarryK, GuestToo (retired from active Puppyness) and MU
I now consider Ttuuxxx as our (most volatile) 4th Puppy Master
and Senior Developer. Thanks Ttuuxxx.

For information: 431.1.iso with old-xserver doesn't work for me. Screen (LCD) can't display correctly. Switched back to 430...

Look at trhe resolution-switcher, hmmmm...

WOW I didn't think I had that coming, kind of hit me by surprise, The first thing I started thinking about is all the developers we have and then It hit me, right now is my time So I would like to say to all around, a big thank you to the community and I'll have to add this to my website, my first award Feels great !!! I'll continue doing my very best in the future also.

Hmmm I've never seen that before, well the newer X-Server is also on page 1, just wondering, do you have a pupsave from 4.30? I'm thinking maybe bootup with puppy pfix=ram
or try the other version.
Wish I had your setup here, would be fun to try and troubleshoot

With all you guys rattling along I would have thought that someone might have had an answer to my humble problem on page 8 of this thread.
My internet connection settings are not saved for the next boot and this happens only in 4.31.1 and 4.3.1.
Details on page 8.

Any ideas, anyone?

Yes I didn't touch any of the networking apps in 4.30. So if its not working in 4.31.1 it shouldn't be working in 4.30, Then with that in mind Barry did upgrade networing in 4.30, where as puppy 4.2.1 didn't have networking issues, So probably if you downgraded to 4.2.1 network it should work, I made the last network upgrade version for 4.2.1 into a pet, So maybe install the package, restart X-Server and give it try

I had already drafted a raving thank you note in my mind, but alas, no such luck.
Installed the pet, restarted x, reconnected and saved; then a reboot. Result:
The LAN internet connection still does not save for the next boot.

This is too bad, because it probably means I have to go back to 4.2.1 on a full HDD installation.
Anything else you might think of, before i go down this dreaded route?

Was bored last night and did a frugal install of 4.31.1 on my P3 test box. No problems at all, everything went smooth and works as it should.

On two different machines I have both full and frugal installs of Puppy 4.30 and full and frugal installs of Puppies 4.31.1 with no network or X-server problems to be found.Everything just works! After a bit more testing I'll replace my 4.20 install (Deeper Thought) on my main computer w/ 4.31.1.

Here's an interesting test to try.
Use a 430 cd to make a simple remaster.
Try to do a full install with that remaster and see if it boots.

First, I must say, this is a gorgeous puppy. Wow!

I have two teensy-tiny problems, both related to the same issue.

1) In JWM, I cannot move the tray to the top.
I get this error:
Change Reversed
New config corrupt. Keeping original

2) I have installed IceWM (which I was using in 4.21 and completely love), but I can't seem to figure out how to begin using it (as in, it isn't in the shutdown options where I expect it to be, and I don't know how to get it there).

Now, what I really want is IceWM, because it is familiar, but I would be happy enough with just moving the tray to the top until 5.0 comes out.

If anyone can tell me either how to fix it, that it can't be fixed, or that I'm simply doing it wrong, I'd be so grateful.

Are you referring to the "kernel panic" that I got after installing the remaster?

Guess that means it doesn't boot.

No; what I get is "error 2 incorrect file or directory".

I haven't tried it with frugal install yet, will do later.

My bad......it boots.Posting from it now.

Someone (not using any names) edited menu lst wrong. Gets a bit confusing,,,sda or hda ........picked the incorrect one.I did wipe the partition and reinstall but only thing I changed is the menu lst.

Didn't do much of a remaster, only added FF 3.5 and used the small iso........ended up at 107 mb.

May be some type of bug in a particular iso.......we have the original 110 mb file, the reuploaded 105 mb file and the small 96 mb file which I used.
