Try the following package of skype 4.3 built with apulse and qt 4.7.1 libs tested working in my lucid:_MegadetH_ wrote:Hi, I'm running a Lupu 528 and installed Skype-2.1.0-Lucid.pet. I can't login, I've a "p2p connect failed" message. How to fix it? Is there a working version for Lupu?

Alternative link to skype-4.3.0.37-lucid_apulse.pet:

You can also try to run skype 4.2 and 2.2 with a workaround:

EDIT: changed link.
EDIT2: added alternative link. Copy.com reported not properly working.

The workaround works also for Skype-2.0, 2.1, 2.2 versions. Just adding one extra line in shared.xml is needed:watchdog wrote:I think no way to run skype 2.1: old versions are retired.
I use Skype 2.2.0.35 daily this way.5. (Adding this line is needed for Skype 2.2 to work - Skype 4.2 will work without this step.) Open with text editor /root/.Skype/shared.xml and add one SavePassword line (after </Pos> and before </UI>) near at the end like this:Save /root/.Skype/shared.xml changes.Code: Select all
</Pos> <SavePassword>1</SavePassword> </UI> </config>

I tried to add 1 between savepassword string (by default the value is 0), and I got "connection to server failed".saintless wrote:The workaround works also for Skype-2.0, 2.1, 2.2 versions. I suggest reading what this workaround is exactly from the link watchdog gave. it is not simple change from 0 to 1 but adding the missing line after setting up the account to autologin with skype 4.3 first._MegadetH_ wrote:I tried to add 1 between savepassword string (by default the value is 0), and I got "connection to server failed".

Sorry Megadeth. I have edited my post. The link is working for me. I have renamed my package. The OscarTalks' one uses pulseaudio, the mine uses apulse. Try to download it again if you want to give it a try._MegadetH_ wrote: i tried to download from copy.com but I think the link is dead. If you mean skype 4.3.0.37 starts but you still can't login - delete /root/.Skype directory and try again. The existing /root/.Skype already failed to login with Skype 2.1 may cause a problem for latest skype._MegadetH_ wrote:Anyway I downloaded that file with the same name from here smokey01.com/OscarTalks/ but I got the same problem.

Thanks to everybody, I tried skype 4.3 from watchdog's link and it works partially. I can connect with Skype user but If I try to login with microsoft account (hotmail account) I got this message in italian that I translate: "sometimes internet connection is a bit slow. Make sure that connection works before try". Any suggestions?

I think it's not a speed connection problem because I can connect to internet at about 6Mbps but the connection fails only with microsoft account login to skype.watchdog wrote:http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 839#746839_MegadetH_ wrote:Thanks to everybody, I tried skype 4.3 from watchdog's link and it works partially. With the same connection on Windows I can connect without any problem.
The package skype-4.3.0.37-lucid_apulse.pet at:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 590#801590
also works in wary (unmodified), slacko 5.3.3, and puppy 4.31 with glibc and libstdc++ upgrades.

The machine I normally use has Pentium III and uses SSE only. So according to this I will never get Skype v4.3 or later to work on that machine. I use Skype only to make calls to USA landlines. Don't care about video, IM, or any other Skype feature. What alternate VOIP could I use for that purpose on Crypto Puppy 5.2.8 for this old machine?stoychod wrote:
Hello everybody ,
Let me clear the matter:
Skype has dropped support for SSE processors so Skype 4.3 won't work on such machines.Open up a terminal and type:
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
Check the output of the command-look for the "flag" line/s.If you don't see "SSE2" (only "SSE") you are out of luck!!!
And of course they won't let you sign in with version 4.2 and below!!!Crap!!!
Thanks,
BCS
You can use Psip32 or Puppy Phone with an account at Diamondcard (Ekiga call-out).
You can use Linphone.
You can use Google Hangouts (or Google Voice); recent thread:

You can get help whatever is your choice.

following this post instructions, I get Skype -video and sound- working
in LUCID 5.7.1
I installed pulseaudio-2.1-lucid.pet
and load on fly
skype-4.3.0.37-pulseaudio-precise.sfs
next, in terminal
# preciseaudio --start
# skype
Right click over the bottom right speaker, select complete window, and play with the cursors.
that's all for me.

Don't know if it helps anybody (and it may have been mentioned before...) but there is some info about an early version of pulse audio in this thread here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1523700a70
Might help someone getting pulseaudio running on older puppies?

This early pulseaudio might be 0.9: pulseaudio >=1.0 is required to run skype 4.3. The best result I obtained is a working skype in puppy 4.31 with glibc and libstdc++ upgrade by using the w5 apulse.greengeek wrote:Don't know if it helps anybody (and it may have been mentioned before...) but there is some info about an early version of pulse audio in this thread here:

I have achieved the result compiling apulse in puppy 4.31 without upgrades:
https://copy.com/T4bbvAhFfa21K8Yy
It is unuseable to run skype4.3 without upgrades in puppy4 series because they have a glibc too old for skype itself.
