Have you considered to use the earlier loop that split menuitems in 'Name - description' as a postinstall script?
Nope, but that would work too. Good thinkin' 99! :P

Jester - Othello clone?

#122 Post by pedropajarito »

I don't know if anybody noticed, but as well as being ugly, it doesn't play othello/reversi.

The game rules state that if one player has no place to move he passes, but jester simply ends the game. This means that some games I played lasted 10 moves instead of the 64 moves that is the normal length.

Alternatives could be mancala or pente or xboard chess

I love Reversi/Othello,but Jester is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. It's not even close to the real thing in terms of gameplay and looks horrible.
Another vote for removal. Please replace it with a *real* Reversi/Othello clone.

ttuuxxx wrote:hi Guys I also submited a geany configure that wasn't included, to fix the default font issue, here's what geany looks like on my pc, by default, nothing changed or altered, its the text highlighting which is a killer, stare closely at if fo a long time because thats what I do, when I compile and make things work, this needs to be changed. I am not going blind because I want to help the cause ,lol
ttuuxxx
ttuuxxx, can you hack 0.16 to bring back the user-friendly toolbar customization config that was in 0.13?

It's been removed from the newest build and replaced with a message about finding the config file and editing it manually with a text editor :(

No undo / redo buttons by default sucks big time.

ttuuxxx wrote:Ok finally 4.2 RC3 is installed on my main pc :) 3 things I've noticed

- WhoDo did say last release or the one before that, Freememory applet was to be re-installed, so where is it?? Due to not everybody will have Pwidgets running and if its turned off, your in the dark, plus if you have a memory leak, your in the dark, plus if you don't check your desktop every hr or so, when your compiling, your in the dark, Will somebody please put the light back on, I can't see, LOL

- Next we do have 24x24 icons which replaced the older 16x16, but why is JWM sub menu still 16x16? it looks stupid to have 24x24 for the main menu and the submenu 16x16, someone is asleep at the wheel again  Back in my JWM days there was a simple file that specified the maximum icon size. Thats what needs to changed. I'm sure one of you JWM aces knows which file I'm talking about. If not I'll download JWM from the repo and look at.

I love the new look, very nice WhoDo, hats off to you. :) Just one small thing, The default folder icon, its too distractive, its hard to focus on what your reading. anyway of maybe finding a new default folder icon, pretty please :) its just too bright, and too big, and too 3d, lol
other than that 10/10 for the theme upgrade.

Abiword spell checkhttp://www.puppylinux.com/blog/

#128 Post by Minnesota »

Downloaded Abiword Pet
Booted new 4.2 RC3, clicked on pet from a stick, Nothing happened. Is it supposed to give a message of completion?

Clicked Abiword. Spell Check NOT SET... had to set it on.
Typed in some miscellaneous garbage... no spell checking.

Restarted X.. (Why is that now three clicks down now?...I know different issue).

Tried one more time.

Downloaded again to insure good pet.......tried on different machine....SAME results.

AGAIN, I ask Please change the default "Spell Check ON", at the same time if that is possible :).

SORRY no go with link for spell checker..... :(

Without additional comments, here is old laptop specs, and widgets running.... 196meg of memory, boot from CD.

Like new Icon for memory stick, shows up nice and easy to spot on the desktop.

I've noticed this too.

Pwidgets waits until you view and close the help window. The widgets won't load at all until you close it.Is this on purpose?
(I don't like this behavior)

Removed help buttons
Replaced BrowserConfig Ptray, Pwidgets and Gwhere with RemasterX, PuppyInstaller, PSIP and partview
(had to remove ptray and pwidgets due to spawning extra processes)
Simplified some of the wording
Enlarged buttons to frame size
... the screenshot is over 50x bigger than the program itself now

no pet yet... pending any last minute changes
Looks great. What an improvement! :)
(the old one was a total mess)

Would be, if you couldn't readily fix the bug by reverting to the previous PETget. See page 1 of this thread.
It's stupid to use inferior software for ideological reasons.

If you mouse over the quick shortcut icons in the top bar,the tooltips get chopped off or go outside the window.

Solution: The tooltips should be displayed under the mouse cursor (not over it) just for the top bar.

ok did you fix petget first? its broken, a good way is test it by installing another package, then once your sure petget is working install
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... abifix.pet
and then set your preferences in abiword and you should be good to go.
I've tried it 3 times now and it just works :)

Hi Minnesota
Take this file and click on it and extract it, then take the petget from it and move it to /usr/sbin/ and overwrite the current one, then try to install the other pets you wanted to.

Just a few more bug reports

Im liking the new right clicks feature for files. However, when right clicking a .jpg graphic and selecting "set as background", the procedure for "dimming" the right hand side of the wallpaper around pwidgets doesnt seem to be happening. This leaves ugly square patches around the widgets. When updating from the wallpaper setter, this seems to work fine, just not from the right click.

Right clicking an .iso to burn it also "hardly" works. If "burn with burniso2cd" is selected, then the dialogue boxes still include asking for the location of the file....surely if youve just right-clicked the file you want to burn then the program should know where it is already? Right clicking and selecting "burn with pburn" doesnt seem to do anything.

Things like the spell checker in abiword, mundane tho they are, REALLY need sorting out before relese.

....and PLEASE for mercys sake, can we have a default wallpaper that roughly matches the themes that so much work have gone into creating. I know the previous one had trouble displaying gradients in 16bit colour, but even that was better than the current one. Could this wallpaper not be "Dithered" (i.e. pixellated) so it displays a rough gradient in either 16 or 24 bit colour mode?

Image

This wallpaper also seems to work well with the colours, the full version can be found here

I know the control panel has been revamped. One of the most common jobs of a "control panel" in "other" systems new puppy users may be more familiar with, is to set the speed and acceleration of the mouse. Currently this isnt included in puppy's control panel, but rather under "System>PupX Set Properties of X" which is hardly "friendly for linux newbs".

Ive been away from the project for a while now, thrashing my head with netbooting, but I can see a lot of work has gone on. Personally (lets not get semantic again here) a release candidate should be exactly that...a candidate for release. I would like to see a lot more testing and fixing go into the finished product, with the final release candidate being exactly that....basically a candidate for release, with very very few if any differences between the final release candidate and the final release. This is open source, there are no deadlines. Lets get it perfect before we release it on the world.
