Changes:
Kernel: 4.19.0-6 (the kernel is separate module)
Default WM - OpenBox, with 3 Desktop choices (run ‘Desktop Manager’ to choose):
- Tint2 panels
- PcmanFM providing the Desktop and lxpanel
- Tint2 bottom panel and rox-pinboard providing the Desktop
Option to switch to JWM window-manager

Upgraded all packages.
Only one version now: openbox_jwm (discontinued the openbox_xfce variant)

Thanks Fred. I used this -6 kernel in some Stretch installs instead of my upgraded -5 kernel and it still works fine.

How did you install?
How does your (boot) menu.lst (on Usb-Stick) looks like .(Important)

Which Type of Partition did you format your Usb-Stick (fat-----ext/2/3/4?) ?
Did you flag your Usb-Stick "bootable" with Gparted ?
Do you know how to do that ?
After written to usb drive and tried to boot live.
For helping you we need more Details .

Reason is that I've found a self-supporting way, which I prefer, to avoid systemd, BusterDog is based on Debian Buster with a few alterations to make possible running without systemd.
