mp3splt-gtk-0.9.tar.gz extracted...now what?

#1 Post by Relztrah »

Using tahrpup64 version 6.0.5.

I want to try mp3splt as an alternative to Audacity and I was able to download it from Sourceforge and extract the contents (see image) but I'm not sure what to do from this point. I searched through the directories for something that looks like an executable and didn't find anything that would launch it.

There is a text file INSTALL that begins...

To install the program, you can to compile the source code.

Installing the program using the binary '.deb' debian packages :

...etc. At which point my eyes glaze over.

I was able to install Audacity without difficulty. Am I overlooking something simple or should I back off and stick with Audacity?

Simple? Yeah! Open PPM and install mp3splt-gtk.

Relztrah, depending on what you want to do, another alternative might be Menu -> Multimedia -> mhWaveEdit, which is a very powerful program that comes with every Puppy.

When you get source code you must compile it on your machine to machine language. To do so you need the "devx" file for your pup.
then in the directory shown in your post open a terminal and

type ./configure,
Then type make
and then make install .

Thats pretty standard on all source code and will only be successful if you have everything the program needs on your computer first.

The binary course is like windows .exe files . If it is made for your distro and your machine it will run straight away.and a .deb file is recognised and the binary installed by your puppy if you are lucky.

Yes. I would use mhwaveedit. It opens a mp3 file nicely.
It doesn't use much RAM.

Where did you find version 0.9.2? I can only see 0.7.2 in the PPM.

I am only suggesting a possible reason for not seeing V 0.9.2.
In PPM configure.
Update the database.
See if it now shows V 0.9.2
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
