Latest Java runtime (jre-*.sfs) files - get 'em here
Hi,
The latest 32-bit and 64-bit Java runtime packages are available at
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages
Tested with my puplet Puli and with tahrpup64.
In these packages, jreclicker is already integrated thus you can run .jar files by simply clicking on their icon in ROX.
Have fun!
Regards,
gjuhasz

Java runtime files uploaded
Java runtime versions uploaded:
Regards,
gjuhasz
- jre-1.7u55-i586.sfs
jre-1.7u60-i586.sfs
jre-1.8u5-i586.sfs

Re: Java runtime files uploaded
I uploaded jre-1.8u5-i586 as a .pet file, too.
Download from
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
Tested on Puli with simple apps such as http://www.java2s.com/Code/JarDownload/ ... or.jar.zip; and http://sourceforge.net/projects/hodoku/ ... hodoku.jar
and also with more challenging ones such as http://ivorymahjongg.com/#releases
I propose to invoke the Java runtime module by the small jreclicker.pet that runs a .jar file on click. Available at the same folder http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
Have fun!
Regards,
gjuhasz
Edit: I corrected the link to my packages because I moved my packages from smokey01.com/gjuhasz/sfs to here. The folder behind the obsolete link includes a pointer to the actual storage place. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Java runtime jre-1.7u71-i586 uploaded
I uploaded jre-1.7u71-i586.pet to
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
Tested on Puli by clicking on jar files mentioned in the previous posts.
Note that the official Java 7 support discontinues in April 2015. Visit http://java.com/en/download/faq/java_7.xml for more details.
Edit on Oct 22:
I uploaded jre-1.8u25-i586.pet, too.
There are no remarkable differences in the performance of the just uploaded versions and their predecessors.
I could not check the security improvements. However, assuming that the updates really patched some security holes, I removed the obsolete (and maybe less secure) runtime versions from Puli library.
Have fun!

They are OK in Puli. I would be grateful for any feedback about how they run in other puplets.

Hi,
I uploaded jre-1.7u75-i586.sfs and jre-1.8u31-i586.sfs to

jre-1.7u80-i586 and jre-1.8u45 (32-bit)
Hi,
I uploaded jre-1.7u80-i586.sfs and jre-1.8u45-i586.sfs to
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
They run fine in Puli.
Note that with this release, the jre-1.7 series lost (the free) Oracle support thus I decided to pack the 1.7u80 (PSU) version instead of 1.7u79 (CPU). Not too much difference between them in size, practically nothing in performance.
See more details at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 31472.html

On another thread, a member ask if there is a JDK for version 8. Could/should JDK SFSs/PETs be co-located here? And, are the library positions maintained no matter if JRE/JDK?
Thanks for new JavaRE package, added to
http://www.puppylinux.org/wikka/JavaRuntimeEnvironment
For anyone struggling with Mozilla integration there is a new symlink plugin location:
Edit: Create directory ~/.mozilla/plugins if it does not already exist
ln -s /usr/java/java/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/libnpjp2.so
Also, it seems JavaRE now requires every site to be made a security exception to run?[/code]

Thanks for the tip, darkcity.
Yes, symlink in ~/.mozilla/plugins/ was broken.
One might want to check Java Control Panel-Temporary Internet Files.
For some reason, Java wants to use ALL of your disk space for storing temp files by default.
I gave it 100MB, should be enough.
Also, unchecked TLS.1.0 & 1.1 under Advanced tab.
Let's see what happens...
Cheers!

I would be interested in a list of applications you run With JRE.
I found a makagiga run with JRE8u45Lin-i586.sfs: 53 M

The JAVA library tree and Puppy Linux
Great instructions from @ScsiJon highlighting the need for a standard consistent library structure across PUP distros to make upgrades simple and easy.
I have often wondered if debian and slackware place JAVA using the same library tree? Or is there placements consistent with Oracle presentation of JAVA tree structure the same? And, is that consistent with OpenJAVA library tree?
If so, PUP's job for JAVA and upgrades would become simple.

Yesterday, I moved my packages from smokey01.com/gjuhasz/sfs to the below link, which is OK now:
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
The folder behind the old link includes a pointer to the new one. I also edited my previous posts to correct the link.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
