Tell the multiple sound card wizard to use the second card (analog). HDMI audio only works when you have an HDMI monitor with speakers (or a decoder and headphone jack) plugged in.
I did that a number of times with no success.

I did a bunch of stuff until after midnight and it now works. I think what fixed it, though not exactly sure, was to change to etc/asound.conf to the correct combination of card1 device0

edit: I think I figured it out. Today is my birthday. It wouldn't work until after midnight when the birthday magic happened. If you're having trouble with sound on your Puppy, wait til your birthday and it'll be fixed like magic :)

Hi caiosama,

Perhaps someone will have a better idea. But in case they don't...

Frankly, I don't know of any "full-fledged" video recorder for any Pup. XVidcap is excellent for capturing video. But only once was I able to use it to capture sound: and I don't exactly recall which Pup, or how.

Audacity is supposed to be able to record sound. But, you'll have to google for instructions on how to do that.

Once you have both video and sound, you can use Openshot or flowblade to combine them. Flowblade has more features. Openshot is easier to use.

Assembling audio and video files might actually be better than trying to get everything right the first time. Or the tenth.

You'll find XVidcap, openshot and a version of audacity in Carolina's repos. I don't know if the version of audacity has everything you need for voice recording. A "Wellminded" search of "flowblade battleshooter" or "flowblade carolina" should locate flowblade. Both versions 14 and 16 work under Carolina.

VLC can also record sound. Also in Carolina's repo.

Dont know if it is compatible with Caro but it may be worth trying Simplescreenrecorder here.
I found I needed some of the libs that are loaded by skype and mentioned it further down that thread here

short answer: ffmpeg or vokoscreen

long answer:

vokoscreen

It's a GUI tool, not command-line. on tahrpup, i tested various screen video-capture tools:
-- gtk-recordmydesktop
-- vokoscreen
-- byzanz
-- kazam
-- pyvnc

vokoscreen is the only one that worked flawlessly (also the only one that appeared in the Find-and-Run app).

ffmpeg

i get excellent results on Caro with ffmpeg.

but it's a command line screen capture, so you'll have to dig a little deeper to make it work. you may also need to install the libx264 or other codec. iirc, i believe installing xvidcap made ffmpeg work on my lina, but ymmv.

on the plus side, i was able to tweak my settings for max quality at minimum size.

sample command:
but don't expect this to work without revision-- it's tweaked for my machine and my desired output.

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1366x744 -i :0.0+0,24 -vcodec libx264 -vpre medium -threads 0 capture.mp4
output
https://youtu.be/HYFHfxSd_IM

slick-puppy offers another sample command and more tips- http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 895#764895

there's a front-end for ffmpeg called puprec in the ppm, but i have not used it.

Good news, thunar works as a ftp client, thanks rg66.

to get it working extract " ftp.mount.gz " to /usr/share/gvfs/mounts then reboot, thunar will allow ftp access.

Thank you guys for the responses about the screen recorders! i`ll give a try to them all.

In Precise, Simplescreenrecorder runs flawlessly. Even i dont need Pulseaudio!, i only installed the Debs for Precise from here.

https://launchpad.net/~maarten-baert/+a ... /+packages

If it works in Carolina, im gonna post that here.

Well I found a problem with the pac-tools script, needs the devx loaded to extract deb packages, so the original script is ok, it's dpkg-deb that's the problem.

I have it extracting deb files now with no apparent errors, I used the dpkg-deb file from precise, this fixes things, here are the two file, the old pac-tools if you updated it from my previous post and the precise dpkg-deb

Just extract and place the files you need in /usr/bin , then you will be able to extract deb's that are tar.xz without needing the devx.

Thanks Geoffrey!

I have a problem now with Firefox...after the last update 38.0.5, or dont know if it was for those libs that i downloaded for the screencapture, or the java plug-in downloaded from the carolina repo, but now Firefox crashes.

Code: Select all

firefox

** (firefox:9050): CRITICAL **: gst_app_src_set_size: assertion `GST_IS_APP_SRC (appsrc)' failed
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 678: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!
#

Always crash when someone send me a message (with the "beep" sound) on FB, or on the Whatsapp web. Its all about the sound notifications. With another static pages, works ok.

I created a new profile and deleted the old, with no success.

On the other hand, Palemoon works ok in all circumstances.

Is not a rare bug, i guess:

http://techtots.blogspot.com/2012/10/in ... openc.html

But, where can i find those libs? i have to copy them from my lina cd? (yes, im still using cds)

I found this, it seems to be a gstreamer problem.
Try to set the media.gstreamer.enabled pref to false on the about:config
That may work?

Dont worry my dear Geoffrey, before the "screenrecorder experiments", i had my backup of my pupsave. Everything now is normal. Yes, i did the lazy one

(Now i see the advantages of the frugal installation!)

Guys, in the whisker menu, how i change the title name "Carolina" ?

Nothing personal, but here in my country, Carolina is a very popular girl name, so it looks like a girl`s user session

Can i change to "Puppy Linux" or something like that?
