metastasis69,

If Slacko 5.6 was working OK. There is a good chance you got a bad download of the Slacko 5.7 iso file or a bad install.

The first things I would do:

Delete the install of Slacko 5.7.

Make sure you got a good download of the Slacko 5.7 iso file.

Completely reinstall Slacko 5.7.

If it still does not work.

No wireless on a HP DV6700 that I rescued data from.

Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver??????????

Hard drive very wobbly and it gets any hotter I can have my
New Years Eve fireworks in advance in Sydney OZ.

Puppy Precise 5.61 picks it up with Frisbee.

::::::::

Here's a laugh though.

"After trying about a million things, I got it to work.

I had previously uninstalled Norton Antivirus to install a different
security software.

If you uninstall Norton using the included uninstallation thing,
it WILL NOT work. It leaves parts of itself on the computer, and, in
my case, shot all my network connections (wireless and ethernet).

The problem wasn't with Linux, but the reason it worked on Linux was because Norton Antivirus was never installed there.
Should have realized that. "

network_tray

#144 Post by SFR »

I don't know is it supposed to be like this, but just noticed that having two active interfaces (eth0 & wlan0), only the latter's activity is being reflected by network_tray, i.e. if there's up/download only through eth0, the icon remains dimmed.
Also, Rx/Tx in the tooltip shows only wlan0's dataflow (if any) in such case, but that's a lesser issue.

Shouldn't the icon reflect activity of all active interfaces?

rtl8192cu module

#146 Post by goolwa_pup »

Hi all

not sure why but my realtek 8192cu USB wireless dongle is not recognised by Slacko 5.7. I tried loading the rtl8192cu module but still no recognition. The dongle works fine in Lupu :?

:D Have been messing with Slacko 5.7 for a couple days. Very nicely done. No problems yet. Keep up the great work. Boot from CD, save file and system files on SD card. Me likes.

Hmm, this might be related to recent (Slacko-5.6 -> Slacko-5.7) changes in snapmergepuppy - it's a script that handles saving session on, inter alia, USB frugal installs.
I encountered similar behavior 3 times (within one month and only during saving the session), but nailed down possible culprit and since then no probs.

Ok, you could try this:
1. Unpack the attached archive.
2. Go to latest subfolder and copy snapmergepuppy file to /usr/sbin/ directory.
3. Save the session.
(if something's not clear or you need help, just let know)

If the problem persists, this time use snapmergepuppy from slacko56 subfolder.
If still no go, then it's something else...and in such case you can keep the latest snapmergepuppy as it is faster and has some bugs fixed.

BTW, there is Precise-5.7.1, but the latest Slacko comes only as 5.7 & 5.7.0.

The patch work like charm! Thank you very much. I need at least 48 hours to see some other bugs but I'm so thankful that you're around. This is the most straight to the point answer and it really make sense.... need 48 hours to check if there's any other problem. But so far I'm so satisfied with results. I got a 0.03 seconds shutdown time!!!! Amazing!!!

You're welcome! I understand that you have used the 'latest' one?
I need at least 48 hours to see some other bugs
Ok, I'm looking forward to your feedback.
I got a 0.03 seconds shutdown time!!!!
Well, the actual speed boost is only about 16% - are you sure the session has been actually saved (at shutdown time)?
Hmm, on the other hand if there's not much stuff to be saved, then perhaps...
Anyway, to make sure - just create any file in /root/ and reboot. If the file will be still there, it's ok.

F2FS installer-flash drives

Has anyone gotten this program to work?

I tried running the program.

At startup I got a message about not having a needed version of syslinux.
( you have a version of syslinux that does not support boot menu)

After ignoring that message, it starts Gparted, so I can partition the USB flash drive.
After making two partitions:
32MB Fat32 partition flagged boot.
F2FS partition.

Gparted had message on the F2FS partition that said there was F2FS tools missing and needed for full support.

Got to the point of selecting type of install.
Selected full.
The program did nothing after selecting to start install.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

micko.... please do not change anything with the network drivers or the sound drivers.

Just bought a HP Pavilion laptop, 4gigs ram, quadcore AMD proces, of course I wiped windows 8 out like a bad dream.
I tried a few pups... latest lupu, dpup, mediapup, 4.3.1, so slacko 5.7 works very well,

Slacko 5.7 - March 2014

#158 Post by proebler »

hi,

I posted about an apparent conflict between Parcellite clipboard manager and Figaro's fpm2 password manager way back in 2012 :
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=510

I now encounter the situation again with Slacko-5.7 , running frugally from USB.
Again it appears that Parcellite running by default on start up is preventing use of the primary selection [middle click paste] with fpm2.

I have removed /root/.config/autostart/parcellite.desktop to overcome the problem.
However, I still think that perhaps this should be dealt with in an other way, as it is rather confusing when fpm2 is not working as one expects it to.
Also the potential security issue, which I mentioned in the earlier post on the subject, probably is still the same now as it was then.

cheers
proebler

Simple Network Setup

#159 Post by DigsInDirt »

Greetings, All.

First to Micko and all who haved helped with Slacko, thank you for a great distribution.

I'm much more of a Windows user that Linux, so let me know if you need more information.

I was at a McDonald's restaurant last night, with my HP NC6400 laptop. Starting from a Slacko 5.7 on CD, with a frugal install to a Fat32 data partition. The HP has 1GB of Ram, a dual core processor, with a Intel Pro/Wireless ABG wireless adapter. Slacko 5.7 seems to run very well in general.

At home, I connect to my Galaxy Tab 3G used as a hotspot. Slacko 5.7 connects well using the default Simple Network Setup.

At McDonald's, the Simple Network Setup picked up the AT&T Wifi, showed no encryption, and when I clicked on 'Connect' , just hung, saying something like "waiting".

I didn't have any luck with Frisbee, either.

I then tried the "Network Wizard" which I had used with older versions of Puppy and I connected to the network with out any further problems.

I had a means of booting Slacko 5.6 with me, so I rebooted my laptop and started Slacko 5.6. The Simple Network Setup found the AT&T wifi and connected to it without any issues.

Back to the tomato plants for now.

Re: "something's wrong with CURL" raised here.

I just complied the latest development version (for the upcoming 7.37.0) from git:
https://github.com/bagder/curl
and the problem is gone - everything works as it should.

Greetings!
