Problem with Rox filer
Problem with Rox filer
When I open a directory of say .txt files and select and open one it works fine . When I close that file and go back to Rox and select the next file it stays pointed at the first file and does not un-select it automatically as I would expect as I choose the next file to read.
I must go back and deselect the first or move out of the directory and back in to get to the next text file
Now while I am here I would like to be able to just select a file or Directory choose copy and then in the same window go to where I want to put the copy and choose paste .
This little window that opens is a pain and you must type in the full path to get it done properly . This should be automatic also

If you want copy/paste, go with a different fm like pcmanfm. Rox's way of copying (with the r-click deal) works fine - it's actually a feature in addition to the usual drag'n'drop method. There's also a 'mini-buffer' in rox as well as lots of other ways to go about your filing activity.
I'd highly recommend xfe file manager - it's twin-pane and very good for kybd navigation and file management.
There are all manner of file managers available. Using one (or several) that fits what I need to do works for me. Funny, I've been using an oddball one lately (Afterstep file browser) for a few specific tasks and it does that niche better than any fm.
In my opinion there is no perfect s/w, only tools that fit the operator and job at hand.
By the way, this isn't really the 'bugs' section - it's more for offering s/w packages like Midnight Commander 4.8.1.5, XFE-1.33 and so on. Be that as it may.

I carefully re-read the thread. You start off talking about the focus issue. In your third post, you also mention something about /proc.tytower wrote:Have a good re-read of my post . Its there in all of them and respectfully you are not looking for the right thing I think. Does your install list the "/proc" directory properly or does it freeze?
So I looked at my Slacko 531 install again. I see no problems with the /proc folder.
I found your thread where you originally reported the /proc problem. It looks to me like you have some kind of corruption in your filesystem, possibly in the folder /proc/28780. I suspect that installing a new version of ROX masked that problem, but introduced the new focus issue.
[Update] I discovered that you reported the same problem with 215CE in 2007. At that time, Pizzasgood suggested turning off thumbnails.
So I checked that in Slacko. When thumbnails are turned ON (right-click the eyeball icon), viewing /proc DOES hang up. This is also true in other Puppies I checked. So far, the only one that works correctly is Lupu 528.

Thanks for help in the past.
When I suspect a 'pet' is not working right:
(1) I copy my 'save-00.2fsx' (base-line zero) to 'save-xx.2fs'
(2) then reboot to the 'save-xx.2fs', for 'base-line' set-up.
(3) then re-install the 'pet' that was giving problem.
That way, I don't have lingering files to complicate the issue.
Puppy Slacko 5.3.3 is more fun than a barrel of M$ monkeys !
