@Tazoc,
I also had some kernel panic problems so this may be helpful.
I frugal installed LHP64-5.13B2 to a clean ext4 partition, sda7.
Booted from the CD, copied all the files as per usual install.
Added a new grub entry.
Saved the L64save.4fs file on the way out to sda7.
On reboot, I got the Kernel Panic - not syncing message just as it tried to load L64-513.sfs.
I futzed with it, tried various boot options, no love.
If I deleted the L64save.4fs file, I could boot from the CD.
If I created the save file again and rebooted, kernel panic again.
What I found was this.
My 120G drive is partitioned like this.
/dev/sda1 Windows NTFS boot 40G
/dev/sda2 WIndows NTFS data 20G
/dev/sda3 Extended partition 54G
/dev/sda5 Linux swap 2G
/dev/sda6 Lighthouse 5.03g 20G
/dev/sda7 Lighthouse64 10G
unallocated 22G
Finally I moved all of the sda7 files to sda6, adjusted grub and L64 booted correctly.
Apparently I was in the twilight zone beyond some BIOS imposed limit as to how far out the L64 partition could be and still be seen as bootable.
I am not sure where that limit is but I have run into this before on other Pups installed into outer limit partitions.
I hope this helps.
This is your best and fastest LHP yet.
Thank you once again.

Lighthouse 64 5.12
I love Lighthouse64 5.12 B1, but some things are just not working, and others are strange.
I have several i3 boxes I built for the house, one with 8GB RAM, and I run Puppies as thin-client (DVD-load) systems. 2 systems also have different AMD video cards.
2 or 3 times I have experienced bringing up a new Lighthouse64 5.12 B1 .iso, configuring a bunch of stuff, and commanding a Shutdown > Power-Off or Reboot, *without* getting a chance to save to the DVD. That is really bad, because there is no Save button until *after* the first session. With a Save button, I can save, then mount the DVD (still in the drive), and get some assurance that a good save happened. Indeed, I can save twice, and loading the duplicates (if both saves work) takes almost no time at all. I think there ought to be a Save button available even in the first .iso execution.
Once configured for a particular display, one cannot just take that DVD to a different system and expect it to work. I think the OS needs to offer video reconfiguration in those circumstances.
Today, one of the machines showed 35 seconds of dead black screen, after the load sequence and before the desktop appeared. I have no idea what it was doing.
What *I* was trying to do was to fully-erase some DVD+RW discs with Pburn 3.3.4 (Multimedia > CD/DVD Burning > Pburn....) which I have done at various times (and then immediately later, on the same machine) under Puppy 5.2.5. Attempting to "Blank CD/DVD-rw", the "Blank complete" issues "Unknown error..." In the log entry we see "growisofs -use-the-force-luke=notray -Z sr0=/dev/zero" That looks like a "builtin_dd" command to me. Anyway, DVD blanking (both complete and quick versions) fails in Lighthouse64 and works in Puppy32.
Currently, the biggest problem I have is some sort of peculiar thing with Firefox. At some unknown point, something goes wrong with the Bookmarks function. Local bookmarks do not work, and the menu will not store the Google Bookmarks applet. Perhaps this is a Firefox 6.0.1 64-bit compile or update issue, but it is important to me.
I love Lighthouse64, but there are issues.

Ignore my previous posts to you, I figured out my previous issues.
lhpup seems to be working reliable, the only thing that doesn't work is compiz. I didn't work for me with other distros, and I don't really care anyways - Probably a compatibility issue with my gpu.
Anyways, two things. How the heck do I install KDE, and more importantly, Where do I get wine? I love COD4, and it runs WAY better in wine than my windows crap. Right now my windows NVidia drivers refuse to work for anything. I would prefer to run stuff in Linux anyways.
One I get Wine, I'm probably good for a while with lhpup. Thanks!

Re: Lighthouse 64 5.12
Thank you for the feedback. For a new multi-session CD/DVD, boot with puppy pfix=ram to ensure that you can save the first session back to the LiveCD/DVD, (this is the experimental PUPMODE=77.)RandSec wrote:2 or 3 times I have experienced bringing up a new Lighthouse64 5.12 B1 .iso, configuring a bunch of stuff, and commanding a Shutdown > Power-Off or Reboot, *without* getting a chance to save to the DVD. A new release Lighthouse 5.14.2 incorporates a number of bug fixes for saving back to CD/DVD, which often didn't work in earlier releases. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 386#591386
If you experience a blank screen, problems with console or reboot, type vesa at the boot menu (LiveCD) or add this to the kernel line in your Grub config:Today, one of the machines showed 35 seconds of dead black screen, after the load sequence and before the desktop appeared. I have no idea what it was doing.
nomodeset pfix=vesa,ram
The blank screen is caused by a conflict between kernel modesetting and some display adapters.

Hope that helps,

Wine is included with Lighthouse 64 in a file called zWine-n.n.n.sfs (Wine system files and 32-bit compatibility libs.) If you have done a manual frugal install or used the Universal Installer in 5.12, it may not have copied that file, which is found in the ISO. Once it is present along with the other core files, the zWine should be loaded automatically. In the latest release, the Installer should copy over the zWine and work much better.wacossusca34 wrote:Ignore my previous posts to you, I figured out my previous issues.

KDE and other SFS add-ons can be found at lhpup.org/sfs
What is an SFS and how it is installed? look here.

Lighthouse 5.14.2 released
As noted above, a new release is available, featuring a newer kernel and Xorg from Fatdog 64-521. Please see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 386#591386
With major core updates in Lighthouse 5.14.2, upgrading a save file from 5.12 and earlier is not recommended; but if an upgrade is required--and you back up your L64save file first, remember that display drivers, Wine applications and any apps with compiled kernel modules such as VirtualBox may need to be reinstalled.
To install the open source X.org radeon or nouveau drivers, click Menu -> Setup -> Xorg Video Wizard -> XorgWizard -> Choose. They are not auto-configured at first run because that makes installing enhanced proprietary drivers (via the Update icon) difficult and time-consuming. Other Xorg drivers can be selected with the same method.
To install the very latest proprietary drivers you'll need to install the Devx-L64.sfs first, then download and install the x86_64 or amd64 drivers direct from ATI or Nvidia's website. These drivers may only work with some recent cards, so check the vendor's supported list before installing.
