tubeguy, The ffmpeg libraries in luci-242 are better than these (or the same ones)--they are now included in the iso again.
Okee dokee. Not much difference anyway, my graphics hardware sucks hard no matter what.

wine: cannot find '/mnt/home/StartPortableApps.exe'

wine: cannot find '/mnt/home/StartPortableApps.exe'

There is a discussion going on in the French forum about this error message in xerrs.log.
As the maker of the toutou FAT versions wants to improve the toutou FAT, he would like to know how to solve this issue.

I looked in the xerrs.log file of my Lucid install (FRUGAL) and I have the same message.

In /mnt/home the referenced StartPortableApps.exe isn't there.
In /root/Start there is a script portableapptray which tries to load this StartPortableApps.exe

So the question is:
° why is there this script in Start?
° how come that the exe isn't in the place where it is supposed to be?
(in fact it is nowhere on the machine)
° can this be solved?
Time savers:

I got a PM from coolpup and an explanation of Sir Jasper.
It comes from the wine support.
The name is now StartPortablePlatform.exe
It provides a menu system.
It isn't in 242 anymore. (Sir Jasper)
It isn't really needed (Coolpup)
The issue can be considered closed and I will inform the maker of Toutou FAT.

I ran Seamonkey with this flash pet
libflashplayer-10.1.85.3.pet
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/FlashPlayer

The graphics was much improved
but the film from the BBC I tried, had to be watched in 20 minute blocks
as I had to keep restarting x and resuming - boo - Adobe -boo

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... _of_Spies/

I rather enjoyed the French sense of humour in this Bond spoof

Should I try the 64bit driver?

Edit, maybe unrelated, I don't know but Luci fails to boot on my Acer D250. Since about Luci 234 or so it fails to boot when one have used it two times and made a pupsavefile.

Fluppy 008 boot each time so Jemimah has done something right there or if she use anther kernel maybe?

my old text follows

Testing luci 242 on my Acer D250.

Like before it warns about this
LOAD KERNEL MODULES
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/.
LOAD SWAP
MISC. SYSTEM SETUP
WAIT MODULES LOADED

Fluppy makes no such warnings. I should look if Quirky does but just now I am in 242. :)

What is that Deprecated thing about?

242 works great so far.

Interesting...I had just looked at wine-1.3.6-i486-sfs4.sfs and noticed the reference in the Startup script. Also, there's an Include directory with about 18M of dev files that generally aren't needed and manuals. Since it's in the Lucid Quickpet repos, maybe it should be trimmed a bit ??

edit: also, it might be better to add a "wine" directory in the utilities menu
given 10 entries...
edit2...other issues, like "word" entry in doc menu pulls up wordpad.

I would say yes and the games to replace I would remove picpuz, rubix cube, tile slider game, xemeraldia. but I would like to see a small solitaire game included, bejeweled is probably the most addictive game on windows, and Geweled does a great job at replacing it with a freeware version.

Speaking for myself I have no interest at all in a Bejeweled clone and actually like playing Picpuz. Is there a particular reason for removing games from the iso? Seems a little like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, TBH.

At the minute I'm attempting to sort out that 80GB hard drive and am surprised that there is no offline documentation supplied with GParted considering the chances of making a catastropic error.

FBPanel dclock plugin

#2089 Post by radky »

In Luci-242, it seems FBPanel defaults to the dclock plugin for tray-clock time. Prior versions (at least 239 and before) supported the more capable tclock plugin.

The limited dclock plugin accepts no strftime input, and is restricted to simple 12h and 24h formats. It does not respond to the strftime command structure of clock-setting utilities such as Pfbpanel or PupClockset. On the other hand, the more versatile tclock plugin responds to strftime variables, and supports the display of both time and date in multiple formats.

Is it possible that Lucid may once again support the more versatile tclock plugin for FBPanel?

Thanks

Ok I've been trying to find a small solitaire game, Ace of penguins is probably the best choice. I hated the default look so I changed it. :) But Somewhere in the code it displays a black X on the cards, The X is not an icon, Its probably hard coded somewhere, I spent a few hours trying to locate it, Maybe someone else could find it and disable it and upload the sources which would be nice :)
If not I'll try again tomorrow

ps the pet package contains solitaire and minesweeper, I'll change the graphics on minesweeper later on.

Changed to JWM - is Openbox gonna be dropped or not?
No, I was not thinking clearly. It is too late in the process. Things have been tested and configured with Openbox. It is a hard lesson in self-discipline to get to the point of making no changes except necessary bug fixes--but that is where we are now.

Yes, the reason is that dclock can change colors. As I understand it tclock cannot. Please correct me if I have misunderstood.

You can edit /usr/sbin/pfbpanel, almost at the bottom, to use tclock. Just substitute tclock and then exit to a prompt, run fixmenus, and then xwin.

Correction in the paragraph above to /usr/sbin/pfbpanel

I removed midori from the menu so fewer people would try to use it as an external browser BUT that screwed up something 01micko had worked out. I thought what could that hurt? Famous last words.

I am sure you have noticed that some linux people can be kind of, how shall I say it, uh, officious, like the ones who give us grief for running as root.. This is a Warning message, as it says, not an error message, and what it means is that there is a change being made that is not yet mandatory but some person decided to nag about it. It is beyond our control at this time., but, again, it does not mean that there is an error or that something will not work correctly.
242 works great so far.
On the Acer D250?
---------------------------------------------------
The midori message about libaspell means that midori was compiled to expect aspell but it does not find it. It means that spell checking will not work, but we don't expect it to work.

Lobster,
Can you help us out by trying Iron or Opera for your streaming BBC. Not that I am advocating that you change but it might be interesting to know if they have the same problem. Thanks.

Is there any commandline I can use to boot puppy so that it ignores all puppy related files on the disk? This would make it so much easier to find out why it's completely broken for me.
That command is 'pfix=ram' which will cause Puppy to ignore any older files.
Can you boot that 2400 from a Live Cd just to see what happens. Enter 'puppy pfix=ram' when it stops for commands at the beginning of the boot.

It has been a month since the previous Woof and as you say there has been a lot of development. We are all in it together and everyone will be looking for issues and fixes. As shinobar says,
Heavy test is required on various installations.
At least one problem i know that it fails UnetBootin installation.
It comes from changing the interpretation of 'pmedia=cd'
.

Barry believes strongly in this Woof and he is helping us make sure it works correctly with lucid 5.2

Hi playdayz,
Nooby 242 works great so far.

Playdayz On the Acer D250?
Apart from not booting when it boot then it does works like a dream.

Everything just configure itself and just works apart from not booting. :)

What is it that is the difference that makes it fail to boot. Okay you did not plan it to work
but what does needs to be done to make it work for a Netbook like Acer Aspire One D250 and similar? What is so special about them then? Apart from being small and lightweight.

what is done differently in Fluppy that makes that work with it?

SuperOs works each time too. :)
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Not only that, the huge ISO size caused problems with low-ram computers, the sfs had to be split in two (this might be causing the boot problem I mentioned -- the 21MB sfs32948y23942343297.sfs or whatever can't be read because the system unmounts the usb stick),
That might be, but using the zdrive is the way Quirky and Wary are working now, as well as Lucid.
JWM (the only alternative for low-ram computers like my 256MB) is getting worse at responding to any configuration attempts. If I understood how the menu configuration was established, I'd love to help fix it. Does BarryK know about this?
That might be another clue, because those programs are working well in my tests: fbpanel config, openbox config, and jwm config.
