upnorth, so names are different between the multimedia repo and the regular one? Maybe that's why our mplayer package is partially broken. We use mplayer from one repo and lib<something>49 instead of 50, which is the one from the multimedia repo.

I have a frugal install of Squeeze 009. Internet browsing is very slow and I keep getting network timeout error. I took a quick look through the thread but did not see anyone else with this complaint. I loaded opera just to see if that would act any different but still had same issue. I have never experienced this problem with any other puppy before so I guess it could be something in my setup?

Cur Dog: I have the same problem with 2.6.32.x with my Atheros 9285, it uses the ath9k module. Keeps disconnecting but browsing speed is good.
When it disconnects it says something with "timeout" and "500ms" in dmesg.

Hi Iglu !
I've the problem with kernel panic at a laptop ( acer ( I think I've made the pupsave too small ) )
and the laptop doesn't want to start anymore.
It was a luci live-CD and not a dpup one !
But because you're confident with compiling and kernel compiling
I would have a request to get the panic=0 default to something like panic=5 so the system would reboot again.
I looked at the 2.6.36 source with pfind and 'panic' gave 102 results.
# CONFIG_BOOTPARAM_SOFTLOCKUP_PANIC is not set
CONFIG_BOOTPARAM_SOFTLOCKUP_PANIC_VALUE=0
It took awfully long to open these 102 files with geany from the pfind-menu and this
*_PANIC_VALUE=0 is found at
/linux-2.6.36/arch/xtensa/configs/s6105_defconfig
for example.
I guess you're compiling the x86 tree but maybe there is the possibility to 'replace all _PANIC_VALUE=0 with _PANIC_VALUE=9' (9 seconds before rebooting )
Don't stress yourself and this is what the HOWTO is saying :

So, you want to learn how to become a Linux kernel developer? Or you
have been told by your manager, "Go write a Linux driver for this
device." This document's goal is to teach you everything you need to
know to achieve this by describing the process you need to go through,
and hints on how to work with the community. It will also try to
explain some of the reasons why the community works like it does.
This had also been with .jmwrc : page 15Now it launches seamonkey mail from menu. And the warnings dissappeared. It seems openbox was sensitive to the "&" symbol
Now I figured out how it would be able to set the &-sign into the menu at .jwmrc :
Code: Select all
<Program label="Seamonkey mail "\&" news" icon="/usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/email48.png">seamonkey -mail</Program>
Karl, you know about this one too? Debian sort of if not classic Dpup.

As you can see I'm taking the time with more testing builds, haven't worked on Squeeze for two days. The Debian installer reached beta, let's hope more parts of Debian reach this quality so we can finally have a good final release
I'm trying to figure out which packages can be removed or replaced with Debian ones for better compatibility. So far I see some good opportunities to get the size down.
At the moment I'm working on Pdebthing, rewrote it from scratch with important parts in Perl. It's smarter and more percise, but way heavier. I'm also trying to figure out what makes Trinity show that error about the media manager - I think Trinity needs some package from Debian Lenny (libdbus-qt) and I want to do some testing.
I'm also thinking about starting a new distro that fits right between Puppy, Tiny Core and the dead SLAX, sounds fun to me

And to run mrxvt on de_DE@Euro locale I found this :
http://dotfiles.org/~asommer/.mrxvtrc
There are many more suggestions for the Mrxvt-src ""Xdefaults.in"" here :
http://dev.gentoo.org/~dirtyepic/conf/mrxvtrc
http://www.tamps.cinvestav.mx/~gtoscano/files/mrxvtrc
I also edited the console icon from mrxvt-full to just mrxvt and finally got transparency !

Our Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 uses an Intel 82830 video chipset - is that a know problem that could cause zpup-005 to fail?
I just get no display at all - not even a xorgwizard error.
I have to do a reboot.

Try to boot with "nomodeset". I had a similar problem with my Intel 3150.
By the way, I fixed Trinity, now it handles removable media correctly, you can get it here. Start it with "xwin startkde", I removed the code that sets it as the default window manager. Works great for me - it seems Debian Squeeze lacks some old library needed by Trinity's kio slaves and for some reason Puppy lacks the /media directory and HAL is too stupid to create it when it has that library. Just added both to a new SFS I made using the rewritten, yet-to-be-released Pdebthing.
Anyway, now Trinity works well ... now it's time to do the first trinitypup experiment - build a dpup with Trinity from Woof

Installed your new SFS on luci-235. It's working great. However, still a problem with shutdown that's easily solved with radky's PupShutdown. Posting from it. Next, I'll try it on zen-006.
Thank you for trinity,
Jim

Is this line in GRUB what you had in mind?
Or this?
I tried both, no joy.
Code: Select all
kernel (hd0,1)/zpup-005/vmlinuz pfix=fsck PMEDIA=idehd PDEV1=sda2 psubdir=zpup-005 acpi=noirq nosmp vga=normal video=640x480 nomodeset

Try placing (hd0,1) as follows: Also, change PMEDIA and PDEV1 to lower case. That's good that you check the partition.
Code: Select all
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
kernel /zpup-005/vmlinuz pfix=fsck pmedia=idehd pdev1=sda2 psubdir=zpup-005 nomodeset
