Looks like there is no Dutch... perhaps you can translate it :)
Indeed looks there is no Dutch translation.
Not that I mind, as I would prefer a uk_BE locale, but that doesn't exist.

@Zigbert
But for the sake of other users I might have a look at the to be translated files. I hope that nls.pet don't ruin my installed PBurn. I would have preferred the to be translated files separately, as I have no need to auto-upgrade to the nls language. I would prefer, as in other programs, to have an option to switch the language.

The nls won't ruin anything. You can use preferences to switch between auto selected language (depends on your $LANG variable), or manually select one of the installed languages.

Thank you Zigbert for reassuring me.
I'll install the pet and if time permits will do the translation to Dutch.
I'll PM you when done.

so, as mentioned in this thread

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=51970

does this new version actually burn discs all the way through?

my problem is definitely a software problem, but i am not sure if it is a buggy pburn in 4.31 or the new kernel not liking my old burner

I have followed your thread, but I don't have the answer of your question. I see you're not alone, so it would be good to get the grip of this...... It should be fairly easy to find out if it is the fault of Pburn, since you tell in the other post that Pburn used to work in Puppy 4.12. What Pburn version could it be.....hmmmm.....I don't remember, maybe 2.0.8.....? I have every release in my archive, so you can test whichever you want to.

Thanks for reporting

i'd love to test different versions, but my blank disc budget is zero for a while

my next test will be--does grafburn work correctly in 4.31, then i will know if it is pburn or the kernel

i have had hardware problems with kernel upgrades in the past which is why i am like a dog with a bone about it

[and i will give the 3.18 pburn a spin]

if Grafburn works for you, will you then please test Pburn using the -f switch (pburn -f). This intends to use the same storage approach as Grafburn. See 'pburn -h' for more info.

Bonjour à tous,

It seems that the Help file does not work in the right language when the language is set to Auto.
If the language is set to French in preferences, for example, Pburn can't load. He remains stuck on the splash screen.

Cordialement ;)

I don't know the answer, but you have set your burner to write CD-text information. Not all burners are happy with that. It could be worth trying to burn without....

Those are both problems with the backend, not Pburn itself. Have you guys googled the error messages?

WB7ODYFred - you are trying to use the cdrtools burn engine, but the error message indicates that it is still using wodim (presumably your cdrecord is just a link to wodim). Puppy does not include cdrtools - you need to install it.

When I go to Puppy Package Manager it says next to cdrtools that Puppy 4 had cdrkit (better).

I have 4.31 loaded on this laptop and cannot get it to mount and burn.

Should I go ahead and load cdrtools?

Do I want version a36 or a61-pup4?

Thanks!

AFAICT cdrtools is better maintained and... better.
With problems like these guys are experiencing I think it is definitely worth trying cdrtools.
What exactly do you mean when you say you "cannot get it to mount and burn"? Can you neither mount a CD data disc nor burn a disc? If so I don't think cdrtools will help - I imagine you have a faulty CD drive or motherboard or something, or maybe your kernel or kernel modules don't work with your hardware.

Hardware Info sees it:

-SCSI Disks-
MATSHITA UJDA150

PMount sees it as well, but won't mount it.

I can access a CD with audio files.

I can access an ISO CD (which happens to have Puppy 4.30 on it).

But a blank CD-R (I tried TDK and Maxell brands) is not recognized.

WDYT?

What can't Pmount mount? A blank disk? You can't mount blank disks, so that is expected.
It sounds like you don't have any problems reading discs, just burning them.
What error message do you get when you try to burn a disk?
Do I want version a36 or a61-pup4?
I think it is pretty unlikely that one version will work for you and the other not.
a61 seems to be newer, so I'd try that... or even see if there is a newer version on the forum.

Are you sure that drive is a CD burner? I think it might just read CDs, not write them.

Pburn says "No disc inserted - Added; 0 Mb"

I have opened and closed the drive with the blank CD-R in it and no joy.

Very weird since everything else, except Burniso2cd and Pburn, seems to address the drive OK.

That is an interesting question - this is my backup/spare laptop as my ACER was away for service and my need to burn a CD is to load Puppy back on it (they replaced the HDD).

I thought the MATSHITA UJDA150 was a CD-RW but maybe not. Hmmmm. Maybe I mistakenly put the CD-RW in my son's laptop and the CD-Read Only i this one? Hmmmmm.
