dotpets for Privoxy 3.0.8 and tor 0.1.2.19

#1 Post by valpy »

Here are dotpets for Tor 0.1.2.19 and Privoxy 3.0.8.

I have repackaged them from the dotpups for Tor and Privoxy (the Privoxy dotpet has been upgraded from 3.0.6, using latest Privoxy from Debian Sid).

Please note, these are as far as possible direct clones of GuestToo's original dotpups, so they install into /root/my-roxapps, /root/my-applications and subdirectories: this is to avoid having to modify the existing (working) scripts!

Additional libraries (e.g. libevent-1.3e.so.1) install into subdirectories of /root/my-applications). The scripts ensure that these will be found when running Privoxy and Tor - however, PETGET will nevertheless probably give warnings that there are missing dependencies when you install the packages. This is because directories like /root/my-applications/tor/lib aren't on the standard search path.

If you have space issues when installing these packages with PETGET then it may be worth looking at big_bass's thread and patch for PETGET (see below for link).

I'd also recommend you REBOOT between installing the privoxy package and installing the tor package. The dotpets both use a 'pinstall.sh' script to display a 'readme' - in a similar way to the script the dotpups used. I've found that the second install won't show the 'readme' unless there's a reboot between the installs (even though both installs have worked).

Here is an updated dotpet for Tor 0.2.0.31, based on Debian Sid and GuestToo's original dotpup.

All previous comments apply: see entries above ( e.g. where the dotpet installs, why PETGET may complain about dependencies, and why this is nevertheless OK) .

I just installed the pups, and am getting an error in the Tor logs that the Tor server can't be reached. Is this because the version is too old, or something else?

Possibly - 0.2.0.31 is obsolete

Try 0.2.1.19 instead
