That works but Pmusic does not. Could it be Puppy 4.3.1?

Code: Select all

The resulting file can be opened in a browser too.

I am in Puppy 4.12 now, but will test lyrics in Puppy 4.3.1 when I get there. Pmusic tests the connection with:

Code: Select all

wget -S --spider -T 1 puppylinux.com
If it don't connects, it shows the 'not connected' message.

Thanks for feedback

Works fine, resolves the address, connects, and gives me details about the site. (How do I copy text from the terminal?)

Could a corrupt Puppy be to blame?

Alex
To copy text from terminal (rxvt):
1. select text in terminal
2. press ctrl+c
3. set cursor where you want text in browser
4. press ctrl+v

I find the lyrics bug strange. I will move testing to Puppy 4.3.1 before Pmusic 1.0.0. I hope things will be clearer at that stage...... Is it possible for you to test lyrics on another system?

There is a bug in the latest version of Pmusic:

When using the wings view, the right arrow of the bass control doesn't advance the striped 'gauge' to the right.

I have tested the bass-controller here, and find nothing wrong.
I wonder, is the bass/treble controller activated on your system. This is not a software equalizer, but uses bass/treble controls if supported by your hardware.

Hi zigbert,

I really like to use Pmusic to play my mp3 files but I have run into a couple of issues.

The first is concerning navigation in the filesystem using version 0.9.8 and several previous versions in Puppy 4.31 on my 400Mhz computer.
When I select File -> Open song/playlist the list of directories flickers about five times like they are being continuously reloaded. This action is repeated everytime I select a different directory. This really slows down navigation on the 400Mhz computer. I believe it does the same thing on my 1.2Ghz computer but being a faster processor it is quicker and less annoying.

I also re-installed version 0.8.2 and file navigation in that version was a lot quicker on the slow machine.

The other issue concerns a few mp3 files that I have tried to open in Pmusic 0.9.4-8. What happens is when I try to open them three lines are created in the playlist: Track length and Artist, Filename, Title and Path. I tried a few things to try and figure out was different about these tracks but the only thing that made them play was trimming a second or two off the beginning or end of the track.

I have uploaded one of the mp3 files here in case you want to check it out: http://www.4shared.com/file/145517135/b ... tfile.html

The flickering is because of your slow machine. I don't have any such 'good oldies' for testing. :D I'll take a look..... Thanks for the file

The song was corrupted because Pmusic failed to read its metainfo. It is fixed for 0.9.9. Please turn off metaloading in preferences for both playlist and filebrowser and this will work just ok until you get next release.

Flickering
- Line 208 in /usr/local/pmusic/func is 'sleep 0.1'. Could you try to increase this value and see if flickering goes. If this works, I am interesting in what value is the breaking point.
- Is the flickering still there if you disable loading of meta-information in the preferences?

Thanks a lot for reporting.

Turning off metaloading in preferences for both playlist and filebrowser as you suggested did allow me to play my rougue mp3 files. Thanks alot for that. :) May I ask what was different about the file? When it did not work in the first place I updated the id3 tag and that did not help. Just curious......

As far as the flickering goes, turning off metaloading in preferences for both playlist and filebrowser did not seem to help that problem. Also, increasing the sleep value in line 208 of the func script only created a pause between selecting File -> Open song/playlist and the file browser box opening. After it opened the flicker was still there.

Playing around on my 1.2 Ghz computer I did find that if I maximize the file browser window and navigate to a folder with a lot of files or directories, the flickering (screen re-drawing?) effect is greatly increased. Maybe this would allow you to troubleshoot?

I THINK they contained meta-information both for version1 and version2.....Pmusic couldn't handle 2 sets of meta-tags. I have simply forced Pmusic to grap only the first set of tags.

Your Play/Pause control doesn't seem to work properly.

It pauses okay, but doesn't start playing on re-pressing the control. Sorry I didn't have time to sort out all the code strands to see what the problem is.

Your right, Puppy seems to have got the full 'ps' included. (instead of using busybox) This changes output of ps.

Thank you, I will fix it.
