Puppyluvr, I installed your libs .pet, mplayer still not running.
No biggie, I was just testing the package manager, I don't really need mplayer.
Woof and 2.6.29 kernel will definitely be the base for the next release of pupitup.

:D Hello,
Well, APup lives...Sort of... :D
Received dep errors for libcrypto during build, chose to ignore..
Added it in later...
Made a 135mb ISO and a 22mb za463526.sfs...
Tested on both machines, same results...
No Xorg, no scroll on touchpad, no wireless...no biggie!!!,
It boots, runs fast, and D/L`s from the Arch repos fine...
I can fix the rest... :D
Installed Enlightenment from Arch..
Gotta restart X now..BRB... :D

@Edit..
O.K...I figured Enlightenment would be a good test of installing an Arch package...And......Viola....Works perfect..
Got Xorg straightened out..Tapping works...
Still working on Wireless and Scrolling...
Still resolving missing libs from built in packages, using Arch repo...
This is pretty cool.... :D :D

which kernel did you build with puppyluvr?

After a bit of experimentation it seems mine builds fine with either of the old kernels but fails as above with the rc7-u013 kernel.

I didn't seem to have problems with libcrypto at any stage.

what exactly are the similarities between ubuntu jaunty and upup?

is it mostly the directory structure so that the package management works properly?

This doesnt mean that all the wierd service scripts and quick fixes included in ubuntu will be making their way in to puppy any tim esoon does it?

Burned the upup-463.iso to a DVD+RW using Burniso2cd last night. Booted it, configured my internet connection and a few other things, then shut down saving to the DVD. For the first time ever, when Puppy shut down it shut off my computer. Booted the DVD again, did some more tinkering, imported my SeaMonkey bookmarks, and shut down saving to the DVD again. Booted again and as promised the time to boot was less than it was for the first reboot.

So far the only problem I've noticed is that the speaker icon for the volume control shows a white X in a red box, indicating I suppose that the sound is muted. The sound works though. I haven't been able to get the mute indication to go away.

Booting from dvd/cd and saveing back to a multi session disc seems not to be a problem, but the more saves you make the more save files have to be read at bootup, they do not combine into one save folder. This makes the boot slower and slower as you add more apps.
What i would like developers to do is what i am trying ( with my next to non experience ) and that is do a full install and get that working. Live cd's are ok for portability but not for daily use.

Does left clicking (keep finger down till volume appears)
and then moving the 'volume scaler' up cure it?
If so the volume default is set to 0
which is a bit low even for Bugman in his minimalist days. . .

Same here. Network setup works just fine, internet is OK, but Pnethood only finds the PC's, not the shares.

My Sitecom Netdisk isn't discovered at all.

Gxine crashes, PupTV also.

Xorg is working fine where Ubuntu just doesn't get it right

When a multisession DVD gets so many sessions saved that it is slow to boot (and by the way I've saved over a hundred sessions before, just for a test, and it still booted reasonably fast by Windows 2000 standards) you can "defragment" the multisession DVD by burning the Puppy iso to a new DVD (or the same DVD+RW) with Burniso2cd and then shutting down, saving to the new DVD. This combines all the sessions from the old DVD into one session on the new one.

I find that running Puppy from a multisession DVD is much more practical for what I use a computer for than running Puppy from a hard disk drive would be, if I ever tried it.

If I left-click on the speaker icon, the volume control slider appears, and it is set at zero (even though the volume is evidently not at zero, at least while playing youtube videos.) If I then move the slider up and close the volume control, when I open the volume control again, the slider is again at zero. Or I should say was. Now it's acting like it should, though I haven't tried playing anything, or shutting down and rebooting to see if the slider stays where I put it.

iso

#39 Post by tubby »

I have tried to burn a new iso, i assume you have to remaster to allow Burniso2cd to work. Well herein lies a problem, i am using my own build of dpup so the build itself may be the problem.
When i open the remaster program the splash screen locks and everything freezes, i have to then use Pprocess to close the splash screen and the remaster program. Has anyone else had this problem?, maybe some kind soul would try remaster on a woof build and report back.
