[ SOLVED ] I am having problems with installing java.

#1 Post by Pedro D »

When I downloaded the latest version of java on Puppy Linux version 4.1.2, I opened the file but nothing happened. What am I suppose to do to solve that problem? And I need java or else I can not use Puppy linux because I mainly do things that need java to run like online games like RuneScape or FunOrb.

a) don't use excessive exclamation marks (it's really bad form)
b) don't use capital letters - it's considered and equivalent of shouting (people don't respond very well to shouts)
c) use search - standard Puppy forum search is crap. I suggest you use Puppy Advanced Search
d) you might look into this thread (it has helped me) Java

I was trying to make my dad's computer to boot from the USB but his BIOS
looks different from mine so I couldn't figure it out so I'll just wait till he and my brother go to sleep ( which will be about 4-5 hours from now ) and then I will look around and figure it out. I have to wait for them to go to sleep because they keep saying, hey what are you doing? Stop messing up my computer! So I'll just have to wait till then. I'm at my dad's house and far away from my computer so I can only use his since mine is a desktop and can not bring it all they way over here.

UPDATE: I couldn't boot Puppy from a USB device so I just burned it into a CD and booted it from that.

Hi,

When I tried to install java on Puppy Linux version 4.1.2 on my computer it didn't work. I clicked INSTALL but then nothing happened. While with my dad's computer, however, after clicking installe, this small window opened saying successful install and some other things I don't remember. So I will try again after making a FULL install of Puppy on my computer. Read one of my posts talking about problems that I am having with making a FULL install. Something horrible happened :( The link is below :)

One more thing,

On my computer I booted Puppy from a USB device instead of a CD so maybe that might be the problem? Maybe it might even be the problem with that FULL install I told you about?

Yes I have read . . . and the only thing I can say - folow CatDude's instructions (exactly! :) ) and I am 100% sure it will work.
If not come back and tell us precisely what your problem is - somebody will help you (as long as you are specific about what's wrong)
