Lightworks 14.5 SFS for Bionic and Tahr 64bit

#1 Post by Jayson »

Hey everyone. I'm a guy in production who loves the feeling of getting things done on my Tahr. I'm not very technical (according to forum standards) but I posted a while back about getting Editshare's Lightworks to work. I wanted it as an SFS to keep Tahr light and to have the ability to continue working after running wine basically took up all my save space... and messed up my most recent save on the night before a deadline. You'll need to register an account at lwks.com, but it's basically free to use unless you want to export in anything but h264 at 720p. Download it, run it and let me know if they're any issues.

Is this 32bit or 64bit?
Is Wine needed for Lightworks?

Nope. Just that I decided to make it into an sfs when the wine install messed me up.

Thanks for the reply.

Meanwhile I downloaded the 64bit .deb from its web page. It also needed to download two missing libs. So, I downloaded and installed:

libcg_3.1.0013-3_amd64.deb
libcggl_3.1.0013-3_amd64.deb
lightworks-14.5.0-amd64.deb

It started immediately and seemed to work out of the box.

After creating a sequence by adding a video which has audio track also I played a little with it. It won't play the sequence. The PLAY button switched to the STOP button, but nothing happened.

So, I had a look into the settings, chosen a function to do some testings on the hardware. First two steps which indicated results of frames per seconds successfully finished. On the third step, which was some testings on the GPU suddenly both monitors went black, and I couldn't get back to my desktop.

Messages NO SIGNAL appeared on both of the monitors.

Even STR-ALT-BACKSPACE wouldn't give me a signal back to the monitors to let me do a restart of X. Had to push the RESET button on the computer to make a reboot.

So, this definitely is not made for me.

Thanks for checking it out!

Did it not run from the SFS? On a non-save Tahr it loaded fine, but on Bionic I had to refresh the lib and usr folders. Also, those missing lib files, did you need them using the SFS load or just after installing the original deb?

You're not alone there. I'm on a 2014 Asus laptop, i3 with 4GB RAM running from a 64Gb thumbdrive. My media are usually on an external or the internal SATA. Depending on the media type and size, I've had to make proxies either in Lwks or outside with ffmpeg. It'll use up all the RAM and the swap space and lock the system. I've setup the huds you can see to the side of my desktop to watch out for when it starts to do that and kill the process before it locks up.

What's your system specs and GFX card? Do you have the drivers for the GPU installed?

Thanks again for checking it out. It's been the most capable editing software I've run on pup and I'm interested in knowing the limits.

I did not download the .sfs as information about 32bit or 64bit wasn't there - at least I couldn't find any. Instead I downloaded the .deb only plus the libs that were missing after install. The libs were downloaded via PPM.

My System is:

ASRock B450 Pro4
BIOS Vendor: American Megatrends Inc.
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six-Core Processor
16 GB RAM

AMD Graphics Card Radeon 5000 Series (I think it's a 5450 with 4GB RAM), but PupySysInfo won't show exact Info of the graphics card.
Don't have any proprietary drivers installed.

Usually I'm using KdenLive to create videos.

Hi Jayson, thank you! :D
I downloaded and ran it in my tahr64-6.0.6, without any issues. I have not done any work yet, but I will report back if there are problems.
The only 'problem' is that you have to register within 7 days... :?
