Is Linux for Dummies useful for Puppy too?

#1 Post by Scrappy Doo »

I recently downloaded the Puppy Linux reference card, and am wondering, will Linux for dummies have any relevance to running Puppy? There is a copy o can borrow from my library and I was wondering if I should or not...

Puppy is my first experience with Linux, I LOVE the control I gain over my system, and am a total Linux convert now, and after checking out a few sites on full blown Linux packages, I realize I plan to continually use Puppy, it offers everything I need, is fun, and I love the community behind it. I mention this because, if I plan to only use Puppy, do I need to be reading something other than the. ...for Dummies line and 6books?

Those books will help immensely with command line control and learning Linux.

Some of the commands are not the same or are not present as in some other distros of LInux but almost the same.
Remember in Puppy Linux you mostly run as the "root" user or single user as it is called. so things like sudo and su are used but rarely needed in Puppy

Rockesge: thank you for the input! I has a feeling that a lot of the basics were the same, and that this book would help, just making sure...

I also downloaded the Puppy Linux reference card, so I figure that and the book will be a good start!

The first few topics, at the top of the Beginners Help section of this forum, are full of information for new users of Puppy.

Linux directory structure

This chart of a typical Linux filesystem, will help you get around in Rox File manager.
Just what is located where.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

I greatly appreciate all your help, even if I did ask a question that's in the files... I will try to do a better search next time.
