How to use network printer from HP Envy 5540?

#1 Post by Tattyjacket »

Hi group,

I'm trying to link my Puppy Linux laptop to my network printer.

I've been using these instructions: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 080#444080

I thought I was doing so well.....but when I try to find my particular printer in the Add Printer page, my printer, a HP Envy 5540 isn't listed. :-

Also, the instructions say
Some printer drivers use the /tmp folder, which must have a full set of write permissions. Right-click on the /tmp folder and select Properties. All the "Write" boxes must be checked. This is also true for /dev/null and /var/tmp. Check that /dev/random is all-readable.

Well, when I right click on /tmp I don't see Properties listed.

It might help some if you tell us which version of Puppy you're using and how you're using it (frugal install, full install, etc.)

If you paste this address in an internet browser
(Palemoon, Firefox, Opera, etc)
do you see the cups page?
http://localhost:631
(Or just click the link.)
If you click the Administration tab at the top of the page,
http://localhost:631/admin
do you see the "Find New Printers" button?
If you click "Find New Printers" does it show your network printer in the list?
Can you add your network printer to cups?

The cups help documentation is here:
https://www.cups.org/documentation.html

If /tmp is a symlink, you need to right click the symlink,
click "Symlink tmp", "Show Target"
then right click the dir that the /tmp symlink is pointing to,
which should show you the properties of the /tmp dir.
Your /tmp properties are probably ok.

No, it doesn't.

I have run Peasyport and have found the printer's address though.
