I am studying how to install virtual box. I am running bionic pup from live cd.
I would like to get a frugal install going after virtualbox is installed along with windows xp, and autocad. Then I would like to do a remaster of puppy.
I looked up things associated with virtualbox on the web. I found some 7z files that I think are puppies that already have virtualbox installed. I downloaded 520. Came in a 7z file. I clicked on it and it uncompressed into a vdi file...hhmmm. Now Im not sure what to do with a vdi file? any suggestions? thanks
what is a "vdi" file type?
Hi, cruzin.

Attach it to a VM machine via IDE disk... or SATA Disk..
ok, Ill follow those links and see what I can learn.
thanks guys I appreciate it.
I think I mistook and thought I would be getting a .iso file I could burn to cd and run the computer on it.
I assume that this vdi needs to be run within virtualbox. Im looking for a iso of puppy that already has virtualbox all set up.

vdi and iso files are indeed two different things.
There's probably something at https://archive.org/details/puppylinux
Maybe ask our (extraordinary!) archivist, ally, if you need help browsing the
Puppy archive.
Another way is perhaps to burn one of the regular Puppy isos to CD or DVD,
as found at http://puppylinux.com. The PuppyLinux.com site only offers
isos, IIRC.
Once it's installed, look for "virtual box" in the Puppy Package Manager (aka PPM)
and then install one of those packages on your chosen Pup.

VDI files are files used by Virtualbox.
I'd say what you have downloaded is a virtual machine file that is Puppy 5.20. If you install virtualbox and load the vdi, Puppy 5.20 will boot as a VM.
Installing virtualbox is easy enough. Are you running Bionic 64 or 32 bit? I believe you'll find it in Quickpet in 64bit Bionic.
