Upgrading O/S
Thanks Cthisbear! I d'loaded Network Magic - it's a terrific piece of s/ware, so I bought it. Anytime I have problems with access to my network, Network Magic fixes it. :D But nothing seems to fix the SLOOOOW Vista! I'd buy some extra RAM - mine is only 502Mb - but I'm not confident that will...

Linux Advances!
Sorry - this ought to be in the non-puppy forum, but I felt I needed to reply to alienjeff. If I lived in a country not very far from a land ruled by Bush and his coterie, and if my country had socialist inclinations, and if my country had a lot of oil, and if my country did not have the wish or pow...

Linux advances!
Here's an interesting success story about Linux - tho' it doesn't say which distro is involved.

Simplify Things For Senior Citizens
I teach Seniors how to use their computers - unfortunately windoze. The main problem is often not the menus, but the mouse. With arthritic hands, controlling the mouse is a nightmare.Trackballs are easier - just roll the ball.

Wireless problem
Thanks Wombat. I tried that - it's the same as using the Network wizard. Auto DHCP doesn't work for me.
Anyone got any other suggestions?
Puppy is great
- CE is great
- but Oh! What about wireless? ![Question :?:](./images/smilies/icon_question.gif)

Netcomm NP544 USB 802.11g - How to use it in 2.15CE?
I'm not 100% beginner - maybe 80%, but 100% when trying to set up a wireless connection. I'm using Puppy 2.15CE-final, on an Acer Aspire 1600 laptop, direct from CD. My wireless adapter is a Netcomm USB NP544 802.11g With WinXP on the laptop the connection is fine - I can connect to a desktop downst...

PuppyCE-RC2 Wireless
Thanks Denis and Whodo. I d'loaded (have to do it from Widoze :( ) wpa_supplcant-0.5.7-1 tgz, but it has to be compiled and I hope to avoid that. I d'loaded RC2, but I still have the same problem: Whereas using ndiswrapper with my XP driver works in puppy-pro, it won't work in RC2. What info should ...

215CE:Wireless network problem
RE puppy-215CE-std-RC1: I tried to connect via my wireless router, using ndiswrapper. ndiswrapper says the inf file was successfully installed, but I can't get WAG to do the connection. Rutil didn't work for me, either. I was able to use ndiswrapper etc very successfully with puppy-pro. Is it a kern...

Vista and XP
Though I'd share this little bit of experience. I just got a new desktop - Acer - and, alas, it came with Vista Home already installed. :( After a few days, Vista is driving me crazy - it acts like a policeman and tells me I can't access this or that. The machine is wireless-networked to my laptop, ...

Sorry if anyone or any religion felt insulted. That was not my intention. I really couldn't see (and still can't) the point of Puppies that were aimed at a section of the community chosen for their beliefs rather than for computing needs. To me that means that Grafpup makes sense, Creatorpup ...

Christian puppy?
Although I'm not a Christian, I guess I have a right to comment on the proposed Christian Puppy. I really can't see the point of it. If a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, Taoist etc wants a decent Linux, she/he will find Puppy. Then she/he can download texts of Bibles, Korans, To...

Is there a version for Simplified characters?
Or is there a dotpup for them - can I use the dotpup mentioned in puppian's posting of June 9?
Thanks.

Hard disk failure, maybe.
I have a shutdown problem - Acer Aspire 1600 laptop. the machine shuts down to a black screen shortly after booting, sometimes after half an hour, sometimes sooner. If I reboot immediately, it shuts down again. If I wait 15 minutes and reboot, it stays on for the rest of the day, which suggests that...

Puppy on Compaq Presario Laptop
I'm running Puppy 109CE on my Compaq Presario 1600 Series. 4GB H/disk, 256Mb memory. Ancient 2-button PS2 Mouse. USB flash drive detected OK. :) Installed on Hard Disk. Goes like a dream! :D I tried 2.02, but it wouldn't recognise my PS2 mouse.:( Puppy revived my dead Cmpq Pres. The Floppy drive is ...

Puppy 2 replacing 1.0.9CE - is it safe?
I am currently using 1.0.9CE successfully, from a HD install.
If I install Puppy2 to HD, will it preserve my applications and data from 1.0.9?

Sorry folks. I just saw another post suggesting to set chmod for executability on Java.bin, so I'll have to go home and see if I have Java.bin.

Installing Java, without I'net connection - how?(Solved)
I installed the java1506.pup on my Compaq Presario laptop (which is old, like me) and, since installing Puppy, is wondeful (like me!). It creates a nice icon on the desktop :) , but when I open it it requires a download from the Internet. I don't have a net connection on the laptop :( - I d'load .pu...
