I had kind of forgotten about this thread, but when I pop back in you've cracked it! :) Fantastic work Paul, likewise Hadar. This is exciting stuff, I can't wait to try it out. Paul, will there be a puplet, pet, sfs or whatever available for us all to try? Hadar, great news about a solution for pupp...

It now states this:
Basics

The default graphical environment of Puppy Linux is JWM. It has been well configured so it seems a really good solution for the system. Small Fluxbox size gave authors the possibility to increase the number of programs available in Puppy.

Indeed it does look interesting.
But further to the complications highlighted by Paulh, Puppy usually runs in ram and given that rootz also runs with ram, how much are we going to need?
I would like to try this so any advice offered would be greatfully recieved.

Where is the Puppy 3xxx CE Wish list?

Is this it? Please move if not. Wish list 1 3.02 gets tested and bug fixed first. 2 The CE is built for this community and not for Windows refugees. I am a Windows refugee and can manage quite happily without a freakin "Start Button" or Xp/Vista themes and terminology. I want a Linux to be...

I think it’s a great idea to have a 2xx base CE. Its had much additional development too with the likes of Pizzapup and Teenpup etc. So this could be a great chance to consolidate the 2xx before we leave it behind and you move on to the 4xx series CE. By then the 3xx series will have been further de...

Hi Tom, Yes I am using the fglrx driver and it works fine. Even video runs fairly smoothly when I'm dragging the cube around. If pushed to find a niggle, it would be that maximising of windows with the "animation effect" enabled can sometimes be a bit choppy. But minimising works perfectly...

Hi Tombh, I have just tried wNOP 0.2 and I have to say "its a cracker". Thanks for sharing this. It works well with my ATI Radeon mobility 9700 64mb card. Although I can't get the snow to work or drag the cube around with scroll button. But I will sort this (64mb permitting) when I have mo...

Looks like I didn't know the difference between a window manager and a desktop environment. Not sure I do now  as some seem to blur the boundary.

Window managers. Jwm vs Xfce vs others

I use Jwm with puppy 3 and have recently being playing around with the jwm files to alter its appearance. See JB4x4's post here. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=155802#155802 It made me wonder if any of the other WM's offered greater user functionality and what additional resources ...

Thanks for the code. It’s got me playing around with the JWM files. It’s good to see how configurable it is. The new JWM version also supports colour gradients for things like the window and menu bars so I reckon there is plenty of mileage left in JWM. Pleasing to the eye with no bloat, very Puppy.

I have replaced the files kindly supplied by muggins but the situation remains the same. I have realized the I do not need to reboot as typing xwin restarts the session. If I type gcompris in a console window it gives the same result and happens so fast that I cannot read anything in the console win...
