You'll need your patience. ;) Have you tried the previous version? If you have like one year old metal (hardware) it's gonna work fine. :)

welcome back

Hello,

Good to hear that. Simplux despite the name has a great potential. But it's extremely outdated in sense of software and hardware support.

I can hardly wait the reborn of it. :)

R.I.P

Hello,

As simplux forum has been hacked, and deleted also no post here, I assume this project is simply dead.

Please tell me I'm wrong...

rm /cmds/reboot

Hello. First of all, thanks for the efforts again, update went smoothly and, I've booted up without any issue. (I haven't emerged the default config yet, and I still need to do some more testing, so I'll report results later.) I just want on encourage uncertains to try it ...

remove the symbolic link /lib/modules/2.6.24.4

For me it was an actual library (maybe this was the reason, as after reboot, it become a symlink), but it made the trick, thanks.

It seems also that you've changed the machine name with this upgrade again without updating the hosts file. Xfce is ...

The hang is not very severe - just press ctrl-c.
Actually must be something different, as nothing releases but the reboot. (I've tried almost all possible key combinations).

Can you try to do to test an upgrade on a clean system? I'll do that also. Maybe my personal file has been damaged. It ...

The new configuration files will allow for any window-manager!
Wow, that's brilliant. Can I get it with the update process? Btw, the new initrd script for me hangs at the module library checking at bootup time (can only reset or turn off the machine) so I can load the updated system only with ...

That's awesome, but still not solves my issue with the alternative window manager. ;-) You said I can't convince you about xfce but my suggestion I think is a fair workaround for a win-win situation. :-)

Full success :-)

Please post success or failure of your trials here
It's working, even on my modified (xfce added) version. The only thing it kills the modifications I made to start xfce4 as the default windowmanager (detailed instructions how to do that are available on the Simplux forum), but I'm sure there is ...

Simplux Alpha 2 hint

Dear All,

It's not so visible as standing at the bottom, but the simplux site (simplux.org) has a forum. I've put instructions how to get xfce4 and skype up and running.
It's also easy to emerge e.g. Krusader, so in my opinion this alfa 2 is operational. (I've started to use as my primary mobile ...

The problem is creating the ISO s in the first place.
Fully agree, based on my Puppy experiences any new release is a pain as all my user modifications I have to adapt, despite the fact that it has "update personal file" feature.
I much more like the previous approach of update_simplux which ...

Re: Xfce4

Maybe you can send me the erroneous xorg.conf, your working xorg.conf, the output of lspci and ddcprobe via personal mail or just post it here?
Ooops. Having little more look on the issue (with your suggestion) I think I figured out what may happened.
NOP uses "ati" driver, and it was not working ...

Krusader

Guys, this simplux stuff is seriously something. :-) I still have to get used to the idea of only downloading the source and building realtime with emerge.
Krusader e.g. took around 1 hour but it WORKS. :-)

I more and more respect the power of this operating system...

Thank you for it :-)

Xfce4

But you should be able to emerge xfce yourself.
Finally I had some time to play with this, and it's actually sort of working. :)
I run "emerge xfce4" command (Simple and logical :)) and that's all.

If I log off (I emerged in the terminal), with command startxfce4 it starts and seems working. I'll ...

@Leachim

I fully understand, and in theory I even agree with your approach, but if you don't want to actually loose the alpha (beta) testers, somehow you should compromise yourself I believe.
We need something, or we'll loose interest. July is rather in the distant future, and if I taking into ...

install simplux

Leachim, finally I got my spare pen drive and tried to install simplux.
The result is something I'm not happy with:
root@puppypc:/root>install_siblo /dev/sdc1
Bootloader successfully installed onto "/dev/sdc1"!
root@puppypc:/root>install_simplux --verbose /dev/sdc1
install_siblo /dev/sdc1
