the pet you gave did not work, but copying /lib/firmware/* from Quirky 6.0.5, which I had installed in another Partition, did the trick. I now have internet with my BCM 4312...

sorry to say, but this latest puppy is the first since 4.3.1 which does not boot in gecko surfboard - stalls with kernel panic.....
The latest Wary, in contrast, works great.

Barry K, in his blog, was asking about mplayer and the edubook.
With the latest Wary everything works out of the box, i.e. sound, geany, seamonkey etc with the exception of mplayer.

I have a gecko-surfboard where the puppies are running well with the exception of the latest quirky.
Concerning sound I get woof-woof when booting from CD, but pmusic does not play mp3-files or streams and mplayer does not even open when the desktop icon is clicked. All these are ok with e.g. wary 0 ...

actually, when looking at a new distro, usually first thing is to check installing to usb-harddisk, since there is virtually unlimited space to play.
To my knowledge nowadays all major linux versions have this feature implemented OOTB, but I still remember that in the early days of knoppix you also ...

if your DVD-Writer supports DVD-RAM do not worry about UDF etc.
Do the following:
1. download puppy.iso
2. get the puppy.iso on the DVD-RAM using konsole with command
dd if=puppy.iso of=/dev/sr0 (if this is your DVD-RAM writer
3.Boot from this DVD-RAM- should work without any problem.When shutting ...

I have been using DVD-RAM for any distro I tried during the last months- Puppy works well, too, boots from and saves without any problem to this kind of rewritable disk
- of course DVD-RAM must be supported by your DVD-writer

with puppy 4.1 I got the AR5007EG working by blacklisting atk5 module and loading ath_pci.....
this did not work for me with the release candidate

I followed the advice given by tempestuous and was able, in a few minutes time, to get the the atheros chip (DLink-pci-card) in my desktop PC working and also the AR5007-or6-EG in my eeepc.

as opposed to puppy 4.0 my D-Link-wlan-card with an atheros chip is not working in puppy 4.1 - but using the "retro"-version it does work. Why?

on a msi-laptop with Intersil 2.5-wavelan chipset neither version of puppy 4.1 is working

and use it as liveCD, burned to a DVD-RW in order to have the feature of saving changes upon shutdown.....
