I downloaded and did a manual frugal install. ThinkPad R500, Radeon HD3400.

The good news first
When it eventually reaches X, WiFi is no problem, sound works ootb, and it's fast.

Now the bad news. It only boots up to X every 1 out of 3-5 times. Without anything changed, i.e. no savefile written ...

Did a frugal install on my ThinkPad R500, basic functionality is there, as expected, WiFi is recognized and easily set up. But when I tried to enter static IP in classic network wizard, it threw an error saying that IP, netmask, Gateway and DNS were invalid. Upon re-checking, the respective fields ...

Still working flawless. I don't know, where the 'noname' originated, but I won't bother, I don't need it perfect, I need it working ;)

Take home message: looking into server-side logs is always a good idea ... especially after you turn logging ON.

Take home message II: Frisbee works really good ...

My router didn't assign any names to the clients, so the 'noname' must have originated from the client itself. Frisbee is a prime suspect, and since it also has problems with static IPs, I changed the connection management to standard puppy network wizard, static IP, and up to now, it behaves..

Shame on me ...

on the server I disabled klogd, so it doesn't write to the internal flashdisk all the time. Not much wonder, I did not find any nfs related entries. Restartted klogd for the time being, and tried to mount with the T60, et voila:

I tried booting the T60 to LuPu 528, mounting the share failed. I booted yet another Laptop (in my garage, hasn't been in the game yet at all) to Lupu 5.28, success, without anything changed about LuPu installation, except connection to WLAN. The server was up and nothing ...

Thanks for the help and ideas so far, but I'm about to give up on nfs. The whole thing worked with ftpd and curlftpfs, well with the known problems and restrictions. But it DID what I expected. Needed a more reliable and less error-prone way of sharing files, since my wive wants to take part in this ...

I do get the full rpc list on all clients, even on the one that gets denied access.

When I rebooted the server, I screwed up a bit with the scripts, and so tried connecting while the share was not mounted in place. So I got the same error, access denied by server. After I mounted the USB drive ...

Now it's the other way 'round, the T60 gets access, while the R500 get's access denied by server.

mount command gives me the following:

The Lucid528 should have all the acpi support out of the box, which is good. Looong time ago I set up Lucid 510/520 to do the sleep thing on my thinkpad and that was quite complicated, it involved tinkering with the kernel etc.

I think you need some kind of acpi-support, and acpi tools. What puppy are you running? I assumed you had figured out suspend and hibernation, sorry.

The script I mentioned also uses acpi.

since it starts a new instance of wpagui (after the oldone is killed when entering suspend), I suppose that it connects to whatever network is in reach. It usually takes some seconds from flipping the lid open to being connected again.

You need to find your suspend.sh file in /etc/acpi/actions.

In this file are all actions that are carried out on suspend.
