Monsie,
Thanks for the reply and instructions. I got it working. I just hope it helps me catch some fish. Good luck to you - you're in a great place to fish.

THANKS
I too am an avid fisherman, although I prefer a boat. I've gotten so used to Puppy that I hardly recall how to use commands anymore. I normally use .pet packages and let the pup do the thinking. If you know how to extract and install this program I would appreciate the help. Call me lazy - I'm a fis...

I got Consonance running. What I found out is that the lib it said was missing was included in another set of lib files. So when I searched I couldn't find the one I needed. I just kept installing libs until it worked. Unfortunately, Consonance is not what I'm looking for. I tried MediaMonkey (which...

Looking to install A Linux WMP
I would like to find a lightweight Linux version of Windows Media Player for use on Puppy 5.3.1. I tried to install Consonance but it requires libao.so.2. I haven't been able to find it anywhere, and if I did would not be able to install it myself unless it was a .pet. (I'm Linux challenged). Any he...

I have been fighting the same battle with rdesktop. I have a desktop with Windows XP and use an old ThinkPad T22 with Puppy 5.3.1 to access the desktop. What I found was that Windows XP (Home Edition) does not support remote desktop. You must have XP Professional. Apparently there are ways to trick ...

Possible bug in 'Check dependencies' Setup utility
I just thought I would try to be helpful and report what appears to be a minor bug in my version 5.3.1 of Puppy. When you go to Menu>Setup>Setup Puppy>Check dependencies installed pkg I have two columns of entries. There are TWO entries highlighted, one at the top of each column. When you highlight ...

COMMENTS ON PUPPY
I just installed Puppy about a week ago and thought I would provide some feedback while the trials and tribulations are still fresh in my mind. I will try not to ramble. I have worked with computers all my life, but always with Windows. I'm retired now and have more time to "play around" w...

ENLIGHTENMENT
Just had to say that reading up on how to mount and unmount drives I accidently solved another problem I've been working on. My previous Linux experience was with Mandriva, and apparently it is one of the few distros that does mounting automatically. So I never realized what was going on in the back...

Mounted Drives
Bigpup, Good catch! I set up two partitions on the hard drive- 1. A small linux swap and 2. An ext3 partition on which Puppy is installed. I must confess that "mounting" is a foreign concept to me. Right now my desktop shows the sda2 partiton (Puppy) with a yellow square around it, not the...

WHAT I DID
OK, here is what I tried. Went to the menu.lst file and added acpi=off at the end of the kernel line-which in my case said kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 ro vga=normal I then rebooted. It came back with a message that said kernel panic along with several lines of errors. I tried rebooting sever...

STILL MORE
Forgot to add that I used the FULL install. I did it based on info I read that recommended this if not using Windows on same machine.

I am using Puppy 3.1.5 with no Windows present. I partitioned the 20GB hard drive into 1GB Linux swap-file and the rest as ext3. I have reinstalled Puppy several times and now I have everything running. However, the machine will still not power off using the MENU options. I am forced to hold the pow...

I borked my menu.lst, now a Puppy CD won't even boot
I just switched over to Puppy from Mandriva 2009 on an old IBM ThinkPad T22, 256MB, 20GB drive on a LAN. I really love it, but as an old Windoze user am having install problems. I use this laptop like many others to remotely search the web and use VNC to access my primary computer which runs XP and ...
