looking good so far...
Great stuff as always, Phil. Bionic64 is working great, even on a Socket AM1-based system (Asrock AM1H-ITX motherboard) where Xenial64 couldn't find a graphics driver. (Tahr64 worked on that machine and chose the ati driver by default. Bionic64 chooses the radeon driver.) I had been using Ubuntu rat...

I had done some testing of Ubuntu Mate 18.4.1, so I had it installed all by itself on a SSD drive. With no other hard drives on the system, I tried a frugal install of 7.9.5 on this same drive. The screen shows: wee 0> find --set-root /grldr (0x80,0) wee 0> /grldr wee 13> This is a bug in Grub4dos ...

Anyone else having problems with Grub4Dos? I had done some testing of Ubuntu Mate 18.4.1, so I had it installed all by itself on a SSD drive. With no other hard drives on the system, I tried a frugal install of 7.9.5 on this same drive. At first I thought I'd try to use the GRUB from Ubuntu and add ...

Re: Pinboard drive icons
By the way, does Ubuntu still do LTS versions (Long Term Support), and if so, which are they? Yes, and this new one (Bionic Beaver) is one of them. The LTS versions are the releases in April of even numbered years. Lucid was 10.04, Precise was 12.04, Trusty (Tahr) was 14.04, Xenial was 16.04, and B...

can't find save file one level deep
Hi all. Been way too long since I've been around and helped with any testing, but I'm trying out Tahr 6.06 and have run across something that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread yet. I'm working with a painfully slow HP 2000 laptop. Hard drive is NTFS (for Win 10). It's not my machine, so I'm no...

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic question, but seeing this I had to jump at the opportunity to ask... The motherboard is an ASUS M2NPV-VM with integrated graphics most closely resembling early Quadros and sometimes designated as type 6150. Hardware-info describes this as NV4E. Prehistoric - have you...

If you are leaving tabs open. I wonder if this activity, by the web sites, is using up memory and not releasing it. Yeah, I'm sure my habit of leaving 30 or 40 tabs open at a time doesn't help things, but two of the machines where I see it happening are running 3 gHz 3-core Phenom II and 3.8...

Re: why does Vivaldi say 64-bit recommended?
Why does Vivaldi say 64-bit recommended? https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/119-snapshot-1-2-490-32-vivaldi-1-2rc1 I've been using 32-bit (whatever that means) Puppy Linux for years, and haven't bothered to get the extra compatibility? libraries or whatever to use 32-bit software with a 64-bit Pupp...

Using the .deb packages in Tahr and Tahr64
Hi all. Haven't been around for a while and just found this message thread. I've been using Slimjet in Tahr 6.05 and Tahr64 6.05 and have been loving it. One note... whenever I've needed to install it, I've just used the .deb files on the Slimjet web site. At least in Tahr, all you need to do to mak...

Silly question... how can users change the color of the text used with the desktop icons (to make it easier to read with a darker background image)? Changing the icon theme doesn't change the style of the text. I looked at the JWM theme and GTK theme tools, but those don't appear to affect the icon ...

Just letting everyone know, the Ubuntu repositories for 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) have SpaceFM 0.9.4.1. If you're using TahrPup, you can pull it in directly with the Puppy Package Manager. (One note: I tested it by downloading from PPM and it works, but I wasn't able to get the Preferences menu to wor...

The installer makes it the perfect default browser for Tahr or other new pups, as you don't have to sweat tracking down the latest version afterwards. If anyone's wondering, I have tested the installer with Tahr 6.0 (to update to the latest version) and with Precise 5.7.1 (for a new installation) an...

hi torgo, i know xorgwizard has problems in tahrpup (mentioned in the second post), i'm still trying to figure out why ...... the option to pick 'no KMS' seems to be the problem. Gotcha. I didn't know the second post meant the problem was that extreme - I'm not even changing drivers, and xorgwizard...

*** EDIT *** still testing this - had to hard power off when xorgwizard failed, which might have corrupted something on the ssd partition that is causing the failure. Issue: on some ASUS motherboards, the system is not allowing me to create a save file/folder, claiming that no partitions were found ...
