For the pseudogeek, where to start?

I've been planning for some time to dabble in programming but there are so many different things out there I didn't know which way to point myself. I now know that Puppy is that direction. I believe in this project. Linux is awesome. Ubuntu is where I got my start and I thought that'd be a good ...

NoScript in tandem with Ghostery. Nothing will get through unless you want it to get through.

The best defense is to know how to tweak your browser settings. Paranoia helps.

Based on the original post of this thread, THAT'S ME! Oh how I have a hyperparanoid mind. So paranoid in fact that I don't bother with firewalls. I just trust my router and never ever EVER EVER EVER type in anything to do with bank accounts or personal info like birth dates or physical address and ...

Don't know if this'll help or not and don't know if it's been mentioned but walmart.com sells Belkin USB wireless adapters for $12.96 ($15.06 shipped Fed-Ex) that work right out of the box with Puppy. I have two older machines running on two different models of the cheapie and they use the same ...

Wary Puppy LTS - Bow wow WOW!

I had a vicious time getting my hidden wireless network going, but once I sniffed out the solution I was hiking my leg all over the internet on two machines that had been buried out in the yard . At the end of it, the fix was so simple that it was nothing to bark about . I love Wary Puppy and look ...

Well it turns out that the network manager in Wary Puppy 5.1.3 LTS works great. I swithced my network back to hidden but with one major change - switched from WEP to WPA security and BLAMMO! In less than an hour I had two machines installed to hd and surfing with reboots to make sure they'd keep the ...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was reading there it said 5.2.8 was for i686. I'm not certain of this, but isn't the difference between i686 and i386 that one is for a user machine and one is for a server machine?

Please be patient. I'm pretty tech savvy, but new to this. I fully intend to learn ...

Do you think going up to Puppy 5.2.5 would do the trick?

I'm certain about the wireless device working. The icon at the bottom of the desktop shows it as connected and the indicator in Seamonky shows it as online as well.

Yes. Fresh install on formatted sda1.

IDEA: I'm looking in the bootmanager and thinking if there's a .sfs file for my "saved" connection, and a file for test and auto dhcp, maybe I can place them in order in the boot configuration to load at startup?

It might matter to mention that there are no ...

I save it every time I touch it, hoping I'll stumble into something while wandering through the fog.

I'd like to add the network manager from Ubuntu, but it's gonna take some research on my part. I'm gonna study programing too and see if I can just write something myself.

I'm using Wary 5.1.3 on a full install. It's a 10 gig partition (ext3 file system) with a 2 gig swap partition. I changed

# timeout = 30

to

timeout = 0

so it'd boot quicker. I also added "Puppy" in front of "Linux" in the first line where it shows up.
Where are you doing these changes ...

**CORRECTION UPDATE**

I just got Seamonkey working. Had to do the old test/auto DHCP/test/auto DHCP. I don't know how that makes the difference but it does.

So with a working browser and a good connection, how can I download the whatever-it-is that makes Ubuntu remember connections, how to use ...
