Re: How I customize my Puppy menu (for jwm) - Method 2
Hi, sorry for popping in late, thanks for the great tutorial. I have a JWM related problem, I'd like to open some programs maximised using groups. Do you have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

problems using groups
I used
exec firefox -height 768 -width 1024 "$@"
in the desktop icon's file. This won't work for Thunderbird, though.
I added
<Group>
<Class>*</Class>
<Name>Thunderbird Email Client</Name>
<Option>maximized</Option>
</Group>
to
/etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc, running fixmenus and "jwm ...

how to start programs maximised
I'd like to do that via startup options, script, or init file, as my mom (70) might get confused when windows start minimised, too small or partially off-screen. I'm not around to help her hitting the button for maximising or telling her how to use the right-click menue, so starting maximised would ...

Classic Pup 2.14X works
Puppy Wary 500 wouldn't do (CD drive not recognised), Classic Pup 2.14X did, thank you. I don't have the machine at home anymore as it's for my mom, so I can't test suggestions right away. I might stick with Lucid, though, as some of the new pets are more important than CD support (she wouldn't ...

I did, to no avail. Anyway, I helped myself with my Rube Goldberg scheme. It just keeps me puzzled why it happens only with a full install, while wpa runs fine out of the box with a frugal one or when booting into ram from CD.

Did so, doesn't work. CD supports ends as soon as vmlinuz and initrd.gz are loaded while booting from CD (so I switched to USB), won't work when OS is fully booted into ram, either.

wireless device: WN510G PCMCIA Atheros 54Mbps
> What was it; Vaio or Compaq?
I'm posting too late, it's a Compaq 6715s--the wpa problem is with the Thinkpad 770X anyway, I used the Compaq only for burning the CD, as that Thinkpad won't do it with Puppy 5.2.

Re: wpa_supplicant won't work with full install, only w. frugal
I declare this solved anyway, as doing a frugal install first, saving a lupusave to disc, and doing a full install on top of that did help, though I can't tell why.
This doesn't make sense.
You did a frugal install with save file to a drive partition;
then did a full install to the same ...

Puppy 5.2 on Thinkpad 770X: CD-ROM drive not recognised
Puppy 5.2 on a Thinkpad 770X won't recognise the CD-ROM drive. Here's the Windows drivers overview from ibm.com. No such problem with Win XP on that machine; except for being quite slow and taking up most of the 5GB hard drive, that is.
I had the same problem with Puppy 4.3 on that machine, though ...

I tried it also with Puppy 5.2 on Virtualbox as guest and Win Vista as host, works too. Thank you!

wpa_supplicant won't work with full install, only w. frugal
wpa_supplicant won't work with a full install of Puppy 5.20, only with frugal or booting into ram from usb, so there's no wlan using the network wizard. Installing Pwireless2 didn't help either for the same reason. My mom's old Thinkpad 770X hasn't that much ram (448MB total) and I'd like to get the ...
