Chrome Question: SOLVED
A few months ago I downloaded and installed Google Chrome browser via a frugal install. For the life of me I don't recall how I did it...I don't recall it being difficult. I thought I downloaded it from PPM...or maybe directly from Google. It is Chrome 21. Oops! forgot to add: this is on Precise Pup...

Wow, excellent. I will try this out hopefully in the next few days (pretty busy this weekend). MANY thanks for the help...I will try to report back asap. I also considered removing the video card, as it never seemed to increase performance over the OEM graphics chipset. On a side-note, I will probab...

Odd problem with Puppy 5.4 desktop
I have 2 computers. The newer one runs Precise Puppy fantastically, frugal install. The older one is having difficulty. Specs: Dell Dimension 4400. 1gb ram, P4 1.7ghz, Nvidia GeForce Fx 5200 card, 128mb. Older Puppies worked well on this computer, except video was always choppy, so I was excited tha...

Congratulations to Puppy 5.4!
I have been tinkering with dozens of Linux distros, and all of them had difficulty with flash video. No matter what distro, drivers, computer, settings--ALL of them had video that would hesitate, stutter and just not play well. Puppy 5.4 is the first and only distro that has played every video smoot...

Sorry for the delay, very busy these days! Anyway, I do have frugal Puppy, Macpup and Slacko installed, and those work ok. Never had any conflicts. The computer has both CD and DVD burner. I used the DVD burner to create and run the DVDs. I re-burned SlackoPup 5.3 to a fresh DVD+R using Burniso2cd o...

Puppy 5.28 multisession won't boot in Dell Optiplex GX620
So, Puppy 5.28 multisession, which I used on my old Dell Dimension 4400, won't boot on my new (old) Dell Optiplex Gx620. Frugal puppy boots, but the screen is very dark. I believe it is due to the GX600 having a Radeon card... Anyway, regarding the multisession, I have tried changing the boot order,...

I'm just beginning a trial of Turbopup--it does appear to be very lean and mean! I can't believe it is using 16mb at idle!!!! I'm currently using a multisession DVD for fear that Turbopup will grab the existing Lucid Puppy 5.28 frugal files and goof them up (as Wary did when I tested it recently). O...

Trying different Puppies
I tried Wary puppy (on my 2001 Dell Dimension 4400 w/1gb ram, P4 1.7ghz) and it picked up my Puppy 5.28 save files (frugal install on Windows 7) and goofed them up. (Wary seemed pretty fast, however) How can I test other versions of Puppy but assure the safety of the current files? Second question: ...

This is an interstng thread because I am having a similar issue. There are little hesitations or pauses, some longer than others. I can't seem to pin down what activity causes it (browsing, opening files, etc). A few months ago did a fresh frugal (and multisession) setup with 5.28 with very few prog...

5.28 on multisession DVD uses less memory than frugal?
I use both Puppy 5.28 frugal install and live DVD. They are nearly identical in setup (I have very few extra programs). My base system is Windows 7. What is odd is that the multisession appears to be using less memory. Is this normal? On a side-note, though the frugal install boots and shuts down fa...

How long does your DVD take to boot?
Mine takes 2:44 from pressing the power button until I see the desktop.
Is this about average?

From Frugal to Multisession DVD: solved
I have upgraded my frugal install from 5.25 to 5.28.
Now I would like to copy my pup-save files to a new 5.28 multisession DVD. Is this possible? (Of course, when I boot from the multisession DVD, it detects the files currently on the hard drive, so it acts like a live CD.)
Thanks,
Bob

Frugal install boots slower from Windows c:/ than from Mint?
I had some difficult with my Mint install so I reinstalled Windows 7 (temporarily, I believe). For my frugal install, I placed the Lupusave and Lupu-525 file in c:/. On Mint, the boot time was about 50 seconds...but on W7, it has increased to 90 seconds. The last time I had a problem like this (slow...

I apologize. I will try again. 1. I had a frugal install of Puppy 5.25 on Mint 9 XFCE. 2. I decided to upgrade to Mint Debian XFCE. 3. I saved my Lupusave.2fs file to a usb drive, and completed the Mint upgrade. 4. I re-installed the Lupusave file. I could not recall where the file was originally lo...
