Final update!
Managed to start chrome with SCIM support - I ran it from terminal with this command:

Code: Select all

GTK_IM_MODULE=xim XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM" chromium-browser
Now if only I could remember how to make that permanent...

Bigpup, thanks for the reply! The dependencies were fine (I checked them). But the packages didn't work. However I just solved my problem by uninstalling everything connected to scim and iBus and installing the packages described here: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HowToSetUpScim?redirect=no Now every...

Small update: I installed iBus - I even configured it with Chinese. But it doesn't start. I am starting to wonder what is wrong.. When I start "ibus-deamon --xim" from the terminal something flashes in my taskbar and than disappear. But the program doesn't die, nor does it give any output....

SCIM Chinese input problem

Hi all, I haven't wrote in quite a while, but now I've once again ran into a problem and I dived right back to the forum. Now the problem - I've installed SCIM and SCIM bridge and even SCIM bridge qt - all from the ubuntu repositories (I'm running Precise Puppy). And it doesn't work. It is there - it...

Thank you, cthisbear! Don't get me wrong - I do think it is worth it. And the prize is more than acceptable. The point is - I was a bit surprised it has a prise. Holly ****! This thing is only 800 mb!! How? I guess I might come back completely to puppy if this dog runs the way I think it will :D P.S...

Just watched the video for Puppy 13.37 v2 - I am impressed. I wonder how big is this beast. It's obvious much work was put into making this puppy the fine dog it is today :D The only thing that bothers me is that I have to pay for linux - something I'm not quite used to - although I admit it's well ...

I already have Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity 3D installed on my computer (well, it's a laptop), which I bought especially for audio work, so it's fairly powerful (though I could always use that little bit of extra speed that puppy would give me). It has a business class intel i5 with 4 cores and 8 threads...

Hmmm... If that is the case (which seems quite logical) I might not be up to the task - it'll take too much time to do it just for the fun of it - that is - for me it'll be faster to compile everything from source, rather searching for all the links, editing all the files and hope for the best. I'm ...

Thank you mavrothal!!!
I forgot to add that line... Kinda feel stupid right now... I'll try it tomorrow - I hope it'll work. If it does I'm going to compile a custom kernel, make an iso with puppy remaster and who know - I might upload it for those interested in it :) Wish me luck!

Haven't tried it but you should be able to add the PPA link to /root/.packages/DISTRO_COMPAT_REPOS and then from the PPM do an update of the databases. /usr/local/petget/configure.sh is the script that handles the updating if you want to look at it for more insight. Let us know either way. Thank yo...

Slow performance from Windows - that's my reason. Several years ago (7 to be exact, even though I started messing with linux several years before that) I thought continuing with windows will be a terrible mistake, since I very much need speed for what I do. Also - linux is free (in more ways than on...

Thanks for the reply Semme :) However - the ubuntu based puppies (like Lucid and Precise) support debian packages. The puppy package manager uses the universe, multiverse and restricted. As far as I know (I'm not an advanced puppy user, so I might be mistaken) puppy package manager converts the ppa ...

Ok, I managed to cover points 2 and 3 - now I have qTractor and Ardour. LMMS installation problem, make problem

Hi all. I'm a musician and I'm trying to make my puppy in to a sound OS for professional music production. But I ran to one annoying problem - I can't install one of the most important programs to me (because of it's similarity to FL Studio) - LMMS. At first I tried to install LMMS 4.2.0 from a pet ...

Puppy 4.00 in VirtualBox - problem after install

I have rather unusual problem with my puppy 4.00 installation in VirtualBox under Windows Xp. After a full HD install (no matter if it's ext2 or ext3 formatted) it loads in to black screen with nothing on it. Which is very odd, because I do the installation from a live CD (since all puppies are live...

Thanks for your suggestions and tips :) I already tried DSL - I have to say it was slower than puppy with 2.6.x.x kernel.... Right now the computer in question is with SliTaz - it's faster than DSL and Puppy, but it's still unbearably slow. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the ...
