OK - installed to a 512MB partition, and it is working!!
Thanks everyone for their help.
I guess my only suggestion for next release would be:
Either do not let install into a partition too small, or give error message when you fail. Everything seemed to be fine until trying to reboot.

FULL install cannot boot
I booted from the live CD, and ran the install wizard.
FULL install on SDA3 (Win7 on SDA1 and SDA2).
wizard completed successfully, identified Win 7, created the config for GRUB4DOS and everything seemed to be ok, until trying to boot... :(
Win 7 still boots OK, when selecting it from the grub4dos ...

Boot optimizations
I wish there was an easy way (how-to document or GUI utility) to optimize puppy for my machine, once installed on it.
I mean - I would love to get rid of stuff I do not need (NTFS support, dial-up drivers, other drivers for HW I do not have, etc.).
