HI,
I'm very happy with 4.30 full version. I even got my cheap ($8.95) ebay wireless card to work!

I have an annoyance with the sound though.
I am happy that ALSA finds my sound card, and assigns to it, driver snd_es1968. When I run ALSA, it always picks it up, and it works, with all the bells and ...

Hi Dave,
OK, lucky good, I made the iso file, and can't figure out what to do with it!
I am not using Grub, as Gparted set my inodes up as 256, and I understand that messes with Grub. Never booted from the HD yet, much as I have tried. I hear there is another version of Gparted that formats to the ...

Sorry, it is a frugal install.
OK, I'll try that. Simple huh?

Relocating my pup on same drive

Hello,
Man, I am loving Puppy 4.30. I tried it out on my system after several versions and pups, and as a trial I put it in a small partition, at the end of the drive, right next to the swap partition. It has been behaving wonderfully on my old Micron lappy, and I want to feed it and let it grow ...

Thanks Patriot.
I put in Puppy4.30, and it found it right away, and doesn't forget it either!

Hi CatDude,
Yes, I tried changing sleep, it had the same result. But, I found out it is possible to invoke the wbar by putting the same call in the startup folder, as a script. Wahoo, I figured out how to do that all by myself! The only disadvantage to that, that I can see, is that it has an entry ...

Hi Tazoc,
I tried entering "rxvt-LHP", but it came back with about a hundred alarm # 8s.
Then tried "rxvt-LHP/usr/bin/rxvt-xterm/aterm-xterm", got file not found.
Then tried "/usr/bin/rxvt-xterm/aterm-xterm", got file not found.
It's giving me a lot of grief now, I can't even get the nic working. I ...

Thanks for this great post, CatDude.
It made it so much easier, but I'm still struggling.
I have done everything as noted, I am running Puppy 4.30 frugal, on a Pentium2 machine with 512ram, 5G HD.
I have a strange problem. When I edit .xinitrc to invoke wbar, the desktop comes up looking ok ...

This is really nice. I am quite happy with it. It is beautiful, and packed with features. :)

I have one issue though, the console. If I click on any of the Console-LHP icons, the console comes up for 1 second, then goes away. What is wrong?
It comes right up, then disappears.

edit: I also ...

Thank you for posting this, I've been pulling my hair out trying to get dosbox to work with puppy 4.30.

Well, it installed very nicely, and it runs!

But I am having a heck of a time mounting the old game CD which I would like to install through dosbox. When I mount the drive within Puppy, I can ...

Hello,
I don't know either, both versions of alsa suggested a 1968 chip, but only the 1.0.16 made it work. Guess I'll stick with p412.
Thanks

Thank you for this post, a lot of information there.

My kernel in the Puppy 4.24 is 2.6.30.5. Can I use one of these libraries to get my sound working? Sound works with Puppy 4.12, I guess the ALSA is different. Or an older version of ALSA? Is it possible to just revert to older ALSA with this ...
