I tried many times to post to this forum using the latest Puppy Linux and SeaMonkey, but I can't. It keeps timing out after I click on Submit or Preview. I had to post this using a different computer. Does anyone know what is wrong?
Thanks, ApeMan

-vo xv video output for mplayer
xv is the mode that uses hardware-accelleration from your graficscard.
x11 is a slow fallback mode.
I'd suggest to install Nvidia-drivers to be able to use accelleration:

Re: tried it
I just want to play a DVD.
I followed the instructions above, except the part about the 3D Control Centre, which did not work because I think I have a Nvidia card.
So when I run it, it starts to read the DVD, but then I got this error:
Xlib: extension "XVideo missing on display " 0:.0".

F8 popup problem
The remote computer is actually running Windows 2000, which is why I have to do Ctrl-Alt-Del to login.

F8 popup doesn't work
When I try to use VNC Viewer (TightVNC) I press F8 to get the list of commands but I can't click on any of them. If I try to click on one of the commands, or if I press any key on the keyboard, the popup instantly disappears and does not register any click from my mouse. So I cannot send any ...

I followed the above instructions to connect my puppy computer to a Windows computer. They are connected via a network hub. I tried both SMB and FTP, as explained above. playing wmv files with gxine
Thanks for the info. I was getting a little confused, so instead I just today did a complete re-install of Puppy 1.0.9CE from scratch. I tried to play wmv files, they still didn't work. Then I installed the xine_extra_codecs-1 PupGet package. And now it works just fine!
Thanks,
ApeMan

can't play wmv files
I'm having a similar problem with Gxine. When I try to play a wmv file, I get the message:

Sometimes the sound works but no video.
I've installed the xine_extra_codes-1, and more_codecs packages.

upgrade to puppy 1.0.9 without cd
ApeMan, before you do the upgrade, I would like to know how many GB in size your hard disk is, and how large your current 1.0.8 install is (in particular how large pup001 is and whether you have a swap partition or swap file and if so, how large?)
If your total disk size is under 2GB and you use ...

Ok, I was able to get Puppy working with my laptop finally. I made sure to remove the USB device before booting and then I chose PS/2 mouse for my touch-pad. So the touch-pad works, but I'd rather use an external mouse.
