Furthermore, it appears the only time during running that the pen drive is accessed is when the system says "Saving RAM to "pup_save" file..." That's the only time the light flashes on it, anyway. Programs load pretty much instantly, so it sure feels like almost everything is run...

Veeerry Interesting. At first nothing was in the folder. The pup_421.sfs shows up in the main file system folder. When I click on it, a system message pops up saying the file was successfully mounted. Then the file appears in the tmpfs folder. What did the computer actually do when I mounted the fil...

You may know this already but to gain the ram space after removal you will need to remaster mike No, I didn't know that; I thought if you used pet-be-gone the operating system would completely ignore the "uninstalled" programs and not load them in the ram. So even though Puppy "ignor...

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll use pet-be-gone. My main reason for wanting to uninstall packages is so they won't slow down the system by using up ram.

Full install on Pen Drive?

Is there an easy way to make a full install on a USB flash drive? I have been using a frugal install on a 2 GB pen drive and am finding it a little cumbersome. Mainly I want to uninstall several programs that came with the OS, and I have not found a way to do it (they aren't listed in Puppy Package ...

Resolved!

Excellent, disk checking in Linux sounds easy (I installed puppy on an ext 2 filesystem, I think). I'll do it the next time I start up my desktop (Mandriva). However, i discovered the solution to the original issue. The file I needed was in the root of the drive, named "extlinux.conf"--it ...

Devil Pup

This is the first Linux theme that I put together. I was first inspired by Patriot with the "JWM 2.0.1 Enhancements and Fixes" (See post by that name) I installed his package for the JWM, and found the wallpaper with the wolf howling at those ethereal moons. Then I saw WhoDo's Dark Ruby th...

So . . . I should do a file system check. Problem is, I don't have a clue how to do one. By the way, will the check actually solve something, or just tell me more problems that I need to solve? Has anyone ever discovered whether ignorance is bliss when using a computer?

Still no luck. I tried changing the permissions on the folders it is in, and it always came back with an error and "Read-only file system." I can't save a new item in the folder either. I don't think it's the fault of the pen drive because I just recently managed to edit my JWM theme by ch...

Thanks for everyone's quick replies! Unfortunately, nothing has worked. There is no /boot folder as far as I can see (I guess this is only in full installations). I found syslinux.cfg, but when I try to edit it with a text editor, it is denied access to save the file. Has anyone else experienced thi...

How to remove the boot delay?

I currently began running Puppy 4.2.1 from a USB install. When Puppy first begins to boot, it tells me to press F2 for boot options and "Puppy will boot automatically in 8 seconds." So for 8 seconds of boot time, it does nothing. I understand this is to allow access to the boot options, bu...

Whoops, I didn't mean the second screenshot, I meant the one called "jwmscr2.png", with the wolf and the two moons or whatever they are. The pink theme is quite well matched with the golden "DeepThought" icons, but pink is really . . . not my color! I had no idea what the wolf wa...

Questions about Joe's Window Management Theme

The screenshot "2" is stunning. The only thing I don't like about it is the icon theme; they seem to clash with the theme in my eyes. If I downloaded this theme, would I still have the standard icon sets? I think stardust would be my personal choice. What really sells that theme to me is t...
