HI, just started with fatdog 64 on a macbook pro, which I'm not very familiar with either.
I was expecting to see the files in the mac, as I can in a pc when puppy is booted, however, I have sda1, which is a small drive containing just efi stuff, another sda3, which seems to contain apple recovery ...

Post a snapshot of what is shown when you run Gparted.

I ran the disk check in Vista, it found some problems and said it fixed them, but nothing's changed when I boot back into puppy.
Gparted's "check" option is greyed out.

I don't understand why the Ubuntu live cd shows both hard drive ...

I have a sony vaio laptop, with Windows Vista as the base operating system. Booting from puppy lucid 5.2 CD, I see no hard drive icons on the lower left of the desktop. I tried with a puppy 4.31, got the same result. An Ubuntu live CD boots up the vaio OK showing the hard drives.
The puppy 5.2 ...

When I uninstalled the pet, and used somers method (just downloaded and ran the binaries), the problem went away..
This is a eee900 running on puppy 4.31.

No, it's much worse. I have a 10-page .doc file that works fast in Abiword in 4.1.2. Abiword also looks fast in 4.3.1 until I open the same doc file. Then I can grab the scroll bar and try to scroll down through the doc. After about 15 or 20 seconds it finally moves.

When you added a word in the spell check in previous versions, that word would be OK in the spell check when the document was next opened. This is not happening in 4.3.
