Runs Puppy 4.2.1 just fine and most of my pcmcia cards work fine - certainly the pcmcia slots are working OK.
I have a Toshiba MK5002MPL 5Gb pcmcia hard drive and when ...

The laptop in question is Gateway Solo 5150 - I added extra ram so now have the maximum for this machine (256+onboard 32) = 288 mb
The sound from Gxine is now much better - not perfect but acceptable

Puppy 4.2.1 running in Virtualbox 2.2.4 - a newbies view
Hi
following the instructions in the first post and so on I got some really peculiar results. In my case it is Puppy 4.2.1 on Virtualbox 2.2.4 running on a fairly ordinary Windows XP Home installation. I did a FULL installation not a FRUGAL - this may explain what happened ?

Back for More
All the ones in the know are probably saying " we thought you would be back".
Well it is true that various varieties of Unbuntu support the Toshiba MK5002MPL pcmcia disk drive - however they don't not support any of the wifi or 10/100 cards that I have and their Forum is most unsympathetic.

I have had a good go at making Puppy do what I want it to.
However it does not support all my hardware especially this 5GB pcmcia disk. I also loaded it on my main PC and while it runs fine further investigation suggests it too light weight for my purposes.
Great learning experience but I plan to ...

After much messing about I can report the following:
1) In The ALSA WIZARD I deliberately reset the sound card to the wrong card type - choosing instead of the correct es18xx the "legacy ISA (non-PnP)"
I let this process complete and of course it failed totally and definitely no WoofWoof
2) I ...

Sound awful in Puppy 4.2.1 also
I cannot play a CD in Pmusic or Gxine or AlsPlayer.
The CD plays but the sound is very poor quality and intermittent.
I tried setting up the AlsaPlayer so that it found my sound card - it did ineed find the correct card and install stuff for it and it rewarded me with a woof on completion ...
