That was it. They were not listed in /dev. I copied them from my Fatdog partition rebooted and now I can access them. Thanks for the idea.

LaCie Lightscribe Software

Well 2 years 4 days later.

I had already installed all the software but random placement in Gimp was a pain in the rear end. The Gimp script really helped a lot.

Thanks

No. use the firewall script as a template. You need to define the path just like you did when you clicked through Rox to start it. exec /path/to/Gnotes So put it back where it belongs.

Example for firewall:

sleep 20

exec /usr/local/firewallstate/firewallstate &

My Firefox startup:

Put a script in startup to start it. Open the firewallstaterun (right click open as text) for an easy one to understand. Right click in an open area of startup -New-script..

I am using lucid or lupu-525. My devx is lupu_devx_525.sfs[ and my kernel source is kernel_src-2.6.33.2-patched.sfs . Notice the lupu and 525 in the name and the kernel version matches the kernel Lucid 525 uses.

From reading the directions on your driver page you will need both. They have to match ...

A little info on my seemingly strange answer. I was answering the more generic question @ http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=68315 when it got locked and I just pasted my answer here.

Sounds line an intermittent internet connection, the wrong nic driver or a bad nic (network card). Could be the cable.

Do other computers there have this problem or if you dual boot does the other OS have the same problem?

More info would help. Wired, wireless, system, OS?

make

You need the devx sfs for Wary 512. One of the download pages will have it or go to the download source.

That is all you need for "make" but some things also require the kernel headers or the kernel source which ever is available.

but 'make' apparently, isn't included as a command for my puppy
You need the proper devx and maybe kernel headers or kernel source for the version of puppy you are running.

kernel headers

If I remember correctly the devx file has the headers included.

Lucid 525 Retro-2.6.30.5

OK. I tried it on a Toshiba laptop and all programs worked, all hardware was detected properly even a troublesome Realtek wireless chip that didn't even work in Vista which came on the machine.

Just for the fun of it I booted puppy-4.1.1-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey on the newer machine and it worked, not ...

About that Lacie. Doesn't really matter what happened if you are doing a full format. Just try again and if it fails that details file could help.

Make sure nothing is mounted, no little yellow locks, if there are close all those windows about the drive, back in gparted right click on the partition ...

We still don't know which version you are attempting to install.

I've run 3.x versions on that type of hardware so it can work.

This is what I would try.
Download and burn gparted. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php Use it to create a swap partition 512mb to 1024mb. I'd go with the 1024mb ...

You can install both from quickpet. menu>setup>setup puppy> quickpet...

Whichever you install last controls the "browse" icon on the desktop. You would need to create a new icon to have both on the desktop.
