Puppy linux 5.2 (lupu) video crashes

I thought my video crashes were related to just too many open applications...but I have been looking over the net and it seems there may be a small compatibility issue.

I can have about 3 tabs open on chrome and get a random video crash while reading news or forums. It does seem if I have more tabs ...

Open questions on SDL, glxgears and old PETs

1. SDL is it loaded already. Where do I find PETs to load? I have poked around the Ubuntu repositories and may have missed. If I did find it there, how would I load it.

2. GLXgears. 2 times as fast in 4.2 (about 670fps in 4.2) compared to 5.25. Not affecting anything now, but seems I am missing ...

Thanks for the comments. I picked up the machine for very little. I may upgrade to the 3.06 Pentium (about 20$ on ebay).

My girls have two puppy machines with 2+Ghz pentiums and they perform reasonably well with puppy 4.2 loaded.

I noted on the site about the flashplayer 10 requirements, but the ...

Moderators - please move.... I guess I should have put under users.

Embarrasing - I forgot to check the pet repository. Flash player 10 was there and Flash is working.

Red/Purple streaks showing up is solved, but the video still stutters every 5-10 seconds.

Thanks

I tried to fix Flash, now it is worse than it was

I have been using Puppy for a couple of years. It is the only system on my children's computers. I use Windows for some apps that I don't care to switch from.

I have had an extra 500Mhz computer that I would run with Puppy 4.2 to see what I could get out of it for the past 1.5 years. This week, I ...

Thank You and questions

Many thanks for this distro. It again helps answer the question what can be done with an older machine.

I have managed to run an SNES game successfully and an Amstrad game. BTW, had never heard of the Amstrad before. Amstrad presented minor issue with learning command taxonomy and figuring out the ...

Swap drive load failure

I have been using puppy linux for about a year. On one my computer I decided to perform a frugal install of 4.31

Gparted did not work on the 4.31 live CD, so used an older distro to repartition the hard drive.

It seems that the rest of the install is working; however, the swap drive is indicating ...

I can only guess that the other SDL packages may have been on your system from another program or puplet (if you are using one) I verified that the original system will run it after loading the other three SDL packages.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your trouble. Only one of my machines is using proprietary drivers. I even loaded the 1.2.9 SDL package on top of my existing SDL load (I suppose I could have tried loading the 1.2.9 package only?) The machines in question both run SuperTux which requires OPEN GL / DRI / SDL as well ...

Loaded the Pet with XORG DRI. XORG then refused to work with my NVIDIA driver. I backed up and reloaded.

Okay. I went to another computer that is running the base 4.1.2 distro (new Kernel) and it froze at the same place. I don't know what could have changed with 4.1. Maybe I'll make a 4.1 live CD ...

Looks nice from the screen shots. I loaded the SDL and game, but it
freezes at the menu screen shortly after starting.

At this time, I have resolved my issue, but thought it might be good to share.

I started a project on a Dell Precison 340 Workstation last week. I wanted to build it up for my 10 year old daughter and teach her some things along the way after playing with Puppy on much older machines.

Installing ...

edoc,

I'm not sure about the dependencies, but I had the same issue on a new install. After loading SDL libraries, it worked.

I'm still learning Puppy, the other thing was that I finally installed an NVidia driver and enabled direct rendering/3d accel? (I guess they are the same thing).

After ...

I have done some digging and may have given some erroneous information on my last post.

I believe that 3d acceleration is not running. When using the 'glxinfo' command in terminal, the third line returns 'direct rendering: No'

Looking at the card without pulling shows it to be an nVidia Quadro 4 ...

SuperTuxKart runs slow in 4.1.2 install

I just acquired this system with No OS. I have been working for only a couple of months with Puppy.

I have installed v 4.1.2 to the hard drive and most tasks seem to be performing well. Full install, booting with GRUB. Puppy is the only OS on the computer. However, SuperTuxKart is running VERY slow ...
