Thanks, Leon. That cleared up alot of my questions. I am using a usb flash drive with syslinux and have never used grub. LOL, no wonder I couldn't find menu.lst.

not understanding where to add extra parameter
I have a frugal install of puppy 4.1.2 but don't have a menu.lst. Where do I add the
"kernel /vmlinuz max_loop=28" parameter? Do I need to create the file? I would appreciate any help you can give, thanks!

Don't be too hasty...
I don't think I have ever voiced a political opinion, but this thread made me wish to do so.
It absolutely blows my mind that so many non-Americans have such strong opinions about our choice of leader. I would like to remind you that Obama is a LAWYER, not a poor mistreated man from the plantations ...

Going on to Puppy 4.10
Hey tombh, I did try your patched version of mplayer. Runs like a charm. Still having problems with opera, though. I think I am going to try unleashed with puppy 4.1, compiz, and firefox. Opera just isn't it. (Although it works great in windows.) I sure appreciate all the tips on how to set up ...

xine-ui media player
Thanks, dinky! Now the Xine program runs! I am still getting a blue screen in opera, though. It is my browser of choice. Can't seem to make xine plugin work. Still get blue screen video with great sound. Do you know if there is a work around?

quirks
Hi tombh,
 Well I am back to the drawing board, LOL. Seems SkinnyPuP is a little too fat free for me. I was actually able to make my own puplet after a few tries. I cannot seem to find a media player that will run with Compiz. Xine won't run, just gives a splash when invoked and quits. I get ...

ccsm not installed?
Hello again,
Thanks for your comments Tombh. I am using the python_plus-2.5.2_400.sfs package and the python version command shows 2.5.1. The which ccsm command gives nothing and the ccsm command replies "command not found". I cannot find ccsm on my menu at all. I have installed fusion-0.7.6-400 ...

Tried .sfs and .pets
I was wondering where on the menu ccsm should be? It is not on my menu and will not start from the terminal with the ccsm command. Is that because of the missing python files? I uninstalled python for ccsm and installed the .sfs from Steve Binion, but that did not cause ccsm to work and my windows ...

System and Graphics card
I have a Dell 700m system with Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. I am using SkinnyPup 4.0a. I installed XFCE-442-Dingo.pet and it needed zlibsCups.pet. I followed all your suggestions for installing Compiz. Adding modprobe -n i915 to rc.local fixed my dri problem.
Thanks again!

Compiz is working, but I cannot configure it. I am missing libtk8.5.so and libtel8.5.so which belong to: usr/lib/python2.5/lib-dynload/_tkinter.so. I too have looked and cannot find any info. I really appreciate this great how to!

Puppy Saved My Windows XP Laptop Install
I have been trying Linux Live cds for a couple of years, especially Puppy Linux. I am pretty much a windows user though, since I have only been using computers since 1998. I have really enjoyed using the live cds...it seems like such a miracle that an OS can be put on a cd, flash card, usb drive ...
