I have had to abandon Puppy as it just can't seem to handle much more than the simple things. Trying to install Devede devolved into dependency hell. Trying to get OpenVPN to function correctly is well beyond even the skills of an intermediate users. There are other distros that make installation an...

I took a crack at this one about a year ago and failed horribly and miserably and things didn't work out too well, would be nice if someone could actually get it working in Puppy. I'll second that as I can't seem to get any where with it either. Link to English - http://www.rastersoft.com/programas...

I can make some suggestions, but I'm sure there are others out there that would do a much better job of it.

Standard/Advanced Menus

Puppy has so much in it's menu system and much of it is so cryptic that the novice or new user can be easy baffled and intimidated by the multitude of choices in each sub-menu. When I introduce new users to Puppy I have wished for a "Basic" or "Standard" menu setting that hides 2...

Reliable sound in 5.2.8 seems to be a problem. When ever I do a new install (using a Sound Baster Live audio card) sound will work for a couple of reboots and then fails completely never to be revived no matter how often I run Alsa Wizard. No icon in the tray. Nothing. Soon as I boot pfix=ram I have...

1 - When I click on 'Menu... Multimedia... Alsamixer', a small window flashes up on my screen for 1 second and then disappears. 2 - There's no speaker on the bottom right-hand corner by my clock. I'm running 5.2.8 with a Sound Blaster Live PCI card and I have the same flash of the alsamixer and it ...

Did you set your boot flag on the primary partition?

You should still be able to boot from the live CD. At the splash screen hit your F2 key and then type "puppy pfix=ram" (without the quotes). That will force Puppy to run in memory from just the CD.

Many thanks Diggs for your forthrightness, and patience. I hope you will stay on board, and continue to contribute to making Puppy even better. I appreciate the words. I am not trying to troll or cause problems, I have worked with quite a few Puppys and puplets over the last 2-1/2 years. I also use...

That's not true.
What's not true? I could not find an option to change it from frugal to full. I know it will do a full install. I just couldn't get it to do that. Regardless - It's a great tool.

Have you tried it yet? Sure have. It insisted on only doing a Frugal install when I wanted a full install. Not sure why a choice isn't available. And, why isn't it part of the the ISO? Most newcomers wouldn't find that installer buried in the forums and the ISO desperately needs something like that...

...and why would one want to do a "full" install of Puppy? Sounds to me like you lose all the good stuff that way... OK then - A frugal install is the exact same 44 screens with just a few other choices. Think of the install routine on every other major OS and distro. Click "Install&...

There are many forum posts and threads with this problem. I've read through most and tried just about all the fixes. Bottom line for me is that Puppy is not reliable with any PCMCIA device. I have gone to using only USB devices (including wireless) and found them all to be well supported.

At the point of being redundant, maybe I should have posted this here. Puppy's install is still not new-user friendly especially compared to other major distros.
