No way to change the timezone. When you go to Desktop | Country Settings | Set Timezone, Puppy displays a "Usage for Xdialog" screen.

On first boot, if you add or move desktop icons, your changes will be lost. Once the savefile has been created, changes are retained.

Excellent advice, arnold. I'm running on a new Toshiba laptop and had sound on Windows and on Ubuntu, but not on Puppy. This made it happen.

(Right-clicking on the speaker icon and adjusting the volume, as TomRhymer suggested, didn't make a difference.)

You need to run xorgwizard first to create a complete xorg.conf--the auto config does not need to do that so it doesn't. The complete instructions are on Barry's blog.
